I could not attend the last one but richterrell did. It's a worthwhile trip for that but the cost is about $75 or so for non members. The advantage of that particular shoot is that you DO get a lot of different birds brought out in front of you and they are placed in more natural environments. They are still tethered though and composing the shots where that is not visible can still be difficult.

CRC says that all photo shoot participants are admitted FREE, and may spend the entire day there if they wish, even though the shoot is only from 8AM to Noon.

Admission to the grounds was included, yes, which was normally $5, something like that. But the shoot was still $75. I am not sure if they changed that though. I doubt it - it is a good source of funding. I will go again next year for sure - I had a terrific time.
The Kestrels in my portfolio are from the last PhotoWild! shoot, as well as a collection of images I have here.

Even at $75, I think it would be a good idea for a get-together. I think I can save up that much between now and then :)
BTW- this event requires pre-registration. They only accept a limited number of participants. It sells out each time so getting signed up early is beneficial.

Hmmm..that's interesting; no where in the materials that they emailed me does it mention a fee of any kind. I'll have to contact them again. Nevertheless, judging by the wonderful shots you got,it looks like it's well worth, regardless of the fee.
And it still sounds like a great idea for a GTG.

I agree, it is totally worth the price of admission. This link is to the announcement of the event and the rates for this past spring when i attended.

Are you gonna try to come down on the 10th or the 17th or whichever day they decide to do this?

I will sure try to - depends on the weekend, and what is going on with me as we get closer to it. If I drive all the way down there for a Saturday trip to the Raptor Center I will definitely stay over and visit the North Carolina Zoo on Sunday.

Count me in... who is actually taking the responsibility for organizing this event?

I would be happy to help although event organization isn't exactly my forte.
So far it looks like we have the time and the place. What else do we need? |

Since I am a member of the Raptor Center, I will contact them and let them know we are planning to have a group (of undetermined size) of photographers coming to the site on July 10. I will indicate that I will have a head count for them by June 30. If whoever is collecting the head count will keep in touch with me, that would be great :)
We may be able to get some special attention from them if we do this. I also think it would be a great idea for all of us to offer to provide them with digitals of any photos we make. They may want to use them in their own publications and training materials. This could get us a lot further if we decide to ask them for anything extra for our visit.
For those of you who live relatively close to this site, you may want to consider becoming a member. I think it only costs $35 and it will get you in for free for one year and u get discounts on anything else you buy, including a $15 discount on their PhotoWild day next April.
If anyone who is coming would object to giving photographs back to the Raptor Center, please let me know.

Thanks for offering to contact them, John. If everyone could email me that they are coming as well as how many people they will have with them by June 28th, I will contact you with the headcount.
Great idea about the photos too! |

What I'm trying to do is get a 'photographer' head count. If anyone is bring a spouse/significant other who will be bringing a camera, let me know....
I am gonna open an invitation to people in my local camera club for this trip as well. That should help us get to the 20 mark pretty easily. I'm sure quite a few of them will go...

For now, if it isn't too late put me down as "probable". I may be able to drive down. It might take about 5 hours. I'll know whether I can make it for sure by the 28th. |

I just spoke with the director of the Raptor Center. She said that we don't need to do anything special other than show up :)
I did inquire about the 2005 PhotoWild and they are not taking applications for that just yet and probably won't before January. She did mention that if we provide her with a list of names and addresses when we arrive, she would make sure that we get on the mailing list for that event.

Right now it looks like my husband will come with me, (his job allowing), but he doesn't have a camera, he's my "caddy".
Also wanted to mention that if there are any dpc'ers in my area (Northern and Piedmont Virginia) that would like to go with us, you're welcome to ride down with us. We plan to leave around 6AM and drive back home that night as I have a commitment the next day.

I'm just 20 minutes outside of Charlotte. Had no idea there were so many locals on here! :)
A gathering would be lots of fun. |
