???

So what do you do if the only thing in your portfolio is challenge entries?

And are you supposed to put side challenge photos in your portfolio? In a special folder, perhaps?

Forgive my ignorance . . .

Challenge entries should not count against your Portfolio space allocation.

ETA: Yes, for the side challenges it would be convenient to create a new folder/gallery. AFAIK there is no limitation on the number of folders you can create.

I reduced my image to 900 pixels because on none of my screens I can see the square images in the entirety. Does anybody have the same problem?
11/01/2018 07:13:47 PM · #87
I started at 1200 but reduced it to 1000 and it seems ok on my screen now with no scrolling (900 looks ok as well on my screen).

whenever I post a square crop image, even in a challenge, I always size it at 1000 pixels - it overwhelms the page at 1200, in my opinion

I do. The advantage of viewing these on my phone is that everything fits on my screen. The disadvantage is that I'm missing a lot of the smaller details. It's a no win situation.

Apologies for the lack of comments. I struggle to comment on photos at the best of times, but I really can't comment from my phone in case I'm missing something.

Seeing these on my phone is reducing them to a stamp. But it has to do probably with my vision capability.

I'll stick to the 900 pixels.

This being said, the response and comments are worth participating in a SC. Much to learn

Same problem on my monitor. When I've gone to 800 square I'm told that such a small size will be downgraded by voters, so I've stayed with 900 square. Of course we aren't voting, but stayed with 900 anyway. Very annoying to scroll up and down to see the entire image, the answer being to invest in a bigger monitor. I often refer to the thumbnail to gauge the entirety of composition. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just spin the mouse wheel to modify size?

you can also adjust browser zoom up and down to alternately see it fully and dive in the details - on windows machines and chromebooks, at least, that's CTRL + - and CTRL + +

Karen, thanks for organizing this side challenge. Because score isn't an issue, I believe you learn more about individuals and their vision in side challenges. It's a nice complement to the ongoing challenges.

Great work everybody! I'm enjoying the diversity in style and place.

You're welcome, but credit to everyone for signing up and posting [and commenting!] - I can't tell you how pleased I am at the level of response for this side challenge so far. Rachel and I were concerned there might not be enough interest and participation, and took care to choose a non-restrictive theme to try to encourage as much participation as possible. You all stepped up beyond our wildest hopes.

36 fab pictures posted so far and soooo many comments and we're barely 48 hours in - great work everyone!

It's been interesting to revisit all the images multiple times to read what others have commented, too - I've been keeping an eye on the "Recently Commented On" page. :)

top menu - Photos ---> Browse - default should be Recently Commented On, but there's a list on the left you can choose from

Cool - I never noticed that, but it's very useful!!!

And thanks for starting this side challenge. I enjoy it very much. What seems I've got more comments on my pictures than the whole last year on my challenge entries! I also tried to comment on every pic but it will be more difficult during the week.

Understood about the commenting, it can be quite daunting with so many entries! Do what you can.

Useful to note about the Recently Commented page - entries that are located in Workshop instead of Portfolio will not appear there. If you want your entries to be seen more widely than by whomever spots your post in the posting thread, you should move your images to Portfolio.

You can also make folders (and sub-folders) within the Portfolio which will be visible; however, pictures in folders within the Workshop folder will also be hidden (and hidden from search results) unless linked-to directly.

I aim to make this my 3rd completed SC (in 14 years). The previous 2 were Blurry and Lensbaby - that should tell you something. Oh and I will comment on all submissions (eventually).
