Hello. I like to shoot people. Also animals. In Spanish. I can't speak Spanish, though, so most of what happens when I'm shooting is incomprehensible to me.
My lack of verbal skills in the Spanish language began in early childhood, at the same time my grandmother gave me a little camera for my birthday. She died shortly afterward & in my young mind death, Spanish, & photography became forever linked.
In my high school years, my parents let me set up a small darkroom in the laundry room. A large cabinet had to be cleaned out first, & in the back of this cabinet was an old, unopened bottle of tequila wrapped on Christmas paper. This was a mystery, as neither of my parents drank. That bottle perhaps explains my lifelong passion for film photography.
My first photo to win anything came in first at the state fair, a composition titled "We're All Ears." My Mom cut the article out of the newspaper & put it up on the fridge, where it kept pride of place for years.

provide examples. stories if possible. do not avoid embellishments. drop a crumb or two. |
Thanks, c. Those are good thinking exercises. I'm thinking maybe a short anecdote from my experiences shooting on the street. And building from there. Or not. |
why are you asking us anyway |

He must have a show of some sort. Or a wandering street poet asked for his Artist's Statement. In Spanish, while drinking from a bottle of tequila. |

It's a "required field" for a juried show that I'm submitting work to (to which I'm submitting work). I was looking for ideas and inspiration. Or just some comic relief from the writer's block. |

Aha! I think I'm beginning to understand a bit about artists' statements. Maybe they all ask for help. |

I like the wandering street poet theory best so far.....in Spanish.....and with apologies to Jeff Dunham, "On a steek!".
