This was a fun challenge with fun photos. Not all winning photos are all about technical excellence. Sometimes it's just about making people feel something. Silly banana photos make people laugh. Unfortunately, your photo had neither technical excellence nor much emotion.

I think your rant here shows immaturity and a complete lack of respect for your fellow photographers.

Well said! This was the most fun challenge to vote on. I had a good laugh and was entertained.

And dressed up banana shots are the type of thing used in advertising these days too. So even though they may not be hang-on-the-wall art masterpieces that's not to say they dont have their place somewhere.

Personally, I like this one...

yo no offense but what wrong with u? i mean the dressed up / krazie bananas are funnie.. and a banana in a hammock or a banana as a car is far more creative than a little girl staning holding a banana.. unless ur one of the flower/ sunset people.. anyways a smile sometimes cant hurt too much.. have a good day

I would guess that one of the best selling prints of all time is that awful image of the poker playing dogs. To a whole lot of people that is a "hang on the wall masterpiece". It may not be to my taste, but it has sold more than anything I am ever likely to produce.

And while it is frustrating to find that others prefer work that is not to my taste and even find it preferable to my own breathtaking work of staggering genius, I try to remind myself that the reason I submit work here is to have my efforts belittled by a wide ranging group of strangers. I figure if it hurts too much I can always get my mom to say how brilliant it is.

Says you. And were they more appealing then the other shots they beat out? I'm not just angry about my own shot.

Says him, and apparently enough of the other voters to make it turn out that way.

EDIT: Rants should always be posted to the "Rant" folder, never to Challenge Results (even if that is what you are ranting about. This thread is being moved accordingly.

Or how about this shot (which not only had a sunbathing banana but it was a dressed up sunbathing banana),

How dare you rubbish my photo !! I am disgusted by your narrow minded attitude. Just because its not arty, or anything other than a bit of fun, you think its ok to attack it. Well I chose to let my daughters participate in this challeng, they thought up the idea, they had soooo much fun executing the photo and then watching the results come in.

They were actually really happy with the comments and placing, and now YOU rant and rave telling them its a load of crap. Well THANKYOU

You really made my day.

I could tell you why I dislike your photo and why I believe I beat it, but I won't drop to your level.

I can't believe your post. To actually point out different pics and say how better you shot was, then point out how stupid people are for voting the way they did. rofl. I will assume you just had your panties all bunched up in a knot when you wrote your post. Your shot is weak ... period. Get over it.

same thing happened to me in the silhouettes challenge, I thought my shot was so great and was gonna win the thing. Next morning i see its a 3.xxx I was pissed, but my mom just told me that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She then told me its not a big deal, and if you like it, then thats all that matters.

the shot by the way

Melissa, chill for a few days then come back and apologize to those who you have offended. They deserve a sincere apology.

I am hoping your a better person than what you have shown in this post. As Steve says, your photography will be missed if you leave. Give it a few days time and reflect.

edit ( You beat me to it already, that's a sign of good character )

Thanks Garry,
I'm not sure why the thread kept going after I apologized last night. Perhaps it didn't come off as sincere enough? I truly meant it last night but to make sure, I've apologized privately to the individuals, I've deleted the photos from my original post, I've apologized publically. Your kind, sane words were what really hit home. You chastised without being mean about it and I appreciate your measured response. I wish I could be more like you in that respect.

I'm really not the jerk that my stupid, rash actions would have me appear. I'm kind of hurt that people felt the need to heap criticism on me [i[after[/i] I apoligized last night within this thread. The only reason I came back to this thread today was to delete those photos and then I saw all the comments after my apology. Perhaps they made their comments before seeing it? Anyway, I'm going to put it behind me now and try to keep my impulsiveness in check.

Best thing is to look at the results and, if you really have to vent, vent somewhere else or with someone else than in the forums. Venting here leads to nothing and only gets you crapped on. Then, come back and ask questions about your results. Don't accuse or compare. That's just a sure fire way of getting flamed.

Live and learn I guess.

I made my post AFTER I saw your apology and the responses you got are due to the fact that insults still have retroactive effects despite your "sorry's". Good on you for making personal apologies to those you attacked..... but I still think you're lame.

Back-handed and unnecesary, methinks, C-town. Everyone makes mistakes-- don't try to fan the flames after the fire is over.

Leaving the stove on is a mistake, contrived and thought-out attacks on people are an indication of character. At any rate, I retract my "lame" comment and apologize for beating a dead horse. Seeing these types of rants on communal forums always gets me worked up and, like melismatica, my responses reflected that.

Don't worry, I'm not offended by your comment on my banana shot (doll clothes). Sometimes I go for "pretty" shots, but most often I put some humor in them. I'm sorry you don't appreciate the humor, but please don't act like it is "low brow" and not worthy of this site.

I kind of liked your shot including the wrinkled background giving it character. I wasn't wild about the expression on the model or the slight overexposure.

If you are offended by mine finishing higher than yours, just wait for the "multiple Light Sources" challenge to end and compare then. My attempt at humor is garnering me a 3.9, which I am sure you will beat. Hope it makes you feel better.

A banana is a Banana... dressed, naked, eaten, or disguised as a telephone. I love them all. it's a fun challenge and should not recieve this kind of WW3 attitute. I think you all need to calm down a bit, try some Yoga, go for a walk and then realise that there is more to life than getting a BLUE RIBBON. I may never get a ribbon for anything I do but it will not stop me from enjoying the challenge and enjoying looking at all the wonderful and creative ideas that go into peoples work. I'm a musician, not a photographer, I take pictures to relax and have fun, I joined this site to LEARN and be a part of a photographic community. Let us burry the hatchet of insulence and respect each other as ARTISTS, leave the war and fighting to the army.

Love and respect each other always ...... Peace
