I don't think I have ever seen a challenge where the SC gets to decide if you have met the challenge description.

You could treat it like a Free Study from the voting perspective, by that, I mean the voters can choose to ignore whether the entry meets the challenge, since the SC has already been tasked with making that decision. The contributors obviously have to make sure it meets the challenge, but really, the voters don't. I am curious, will the SC actually vet all the images for DQ's, or just the top 5?

We've had them before. They're few and far between. I think one had rubber duckies in it.

How hard is it to include a frame in your image?

How hard is it to understand that you must include a frame in your image?

Seems okay to me.

Just take a photo.

Include a frame.

I love that some of the challenges here are wide open for interpretation. I love that some of them are really tethered down.

It amazes me the creativity we get in both types of challenges. Most of the time it's significantly harder to be creative in the tightly defined challenges. Yet there's usually a few people that can blow your mind. It's all good.

Though I'm still not shooting. Would have liked to have done this one -- it sounds like fun! Maybe after the first of the year there will be time!

We've had challenges where we've had to include several items... or be DQd.

I actually really enjoy those. Wish we had more of them.

I was quite pleased to see Gyaban win this non-Expert challenge with "tethered down" requirements!

Not actually... I never enter some challenges that I just can't relate to... or want to shoot.

For instance... Landscapes.

Just can NOT relate... Although I really want to. *heavy sigh*

It isn't.
Not at all.
Me too.
I did.
I did.

I don't understand how any of these points relate to my original post.

I was just pointing out what I mistakenly thought was a unique type of extra rule and it's potential impact on the voting process. I never entered one of the those types of challenges mentioned before, but when Wendy pointed them out I did remember seeing them.

Oh. Humble apologies.

I'm a bit sensitive... And a bit abrupt. Arg.

I think it's because I suggested the challenge and there are few entries.

Please pardon me.

I'm a doofus.

For real.

*heavy sigh*

Wow golly!
That was... Before my time.

I'm happy to see that we've relaxed a bit.
Although I do see the relevance of the ... whole of it.

Only one question? Has the frame to be the main subject?

I think I will not vote at this turn; not a controversy but not having understood well the theme I would not go wrong judgment

Are there not a fifth of the entries that do not include a frame ?

Yes, but then, others have more than one, so perhaps the average is fine. Hehe.

We vote on what we see and feel and think, including DNMC, and SC has to do it's disqualification job as it sees fit.

Remember, you may point out entries to SC, for their consideration.

If we get 15 DQ-s i can achieve:

- Top 10
- Brown ribbon

All in one go!

Ha, I wonder if site council will have the balls to DQ those images that don't use a frame that would be used to frame art or a mirror.
I reckon if one makes such a pathetically silly and rigid rule, you should have to go all the way, if not you might all be turned into toads.

I was wondering about that one too. The way it's worded is somewhat ambiguous. There are other physical frames that are used to hold, support or decorate things as well, similar to mirrors and artwork. It doesn't outright say it has to be one of these two, but it could be interpreted that way.

How else could you interpret this: "You must prominently feature at least one actual, physical frame (such as would be used to frame art or a mirror) in your composition. Failure to do so is grounds for DQ."

I don't think it was that difficult to put a real frame in your picture.
Why so many entries without ????
I just don't get it.
12/11/2015 08:08:23 AM · #24
Prominently doesn't mean fill the frame, it means obviously on display.
i guarantee mine has two frames prominently displayed but not gargantuan in size.
i feel that is why my score is low, despite the rules stating to vote normally on the image and not lowvote "dq" images.

Ah well, the more things change....
12/11/2015 09:05:04 AM · #25
I pulled my image a day or 2 before the voting because I didn't feel like arguing over what is a frame and what isn't.
