So far we have no evidence of "conspired voting": that would constitute giving their classmates high votes and the rest low votes. It may be they are doing this, but all we know for sure is that some (not all) of them are throwing out a lot of low votes. Give us time to gather data :-) |

Running for the brown:) I don't think it's THAT bad. I was guessing a 5.5

Hmmm .. good point. Perhaps a "Guide for teachers" would be something to consider. Seriously. The last thing we want to do is discourage new blood.
And I hope these kids are asking for a critique. I would be more than happy to participate in that.
My wife is a high school English teacher and I can only imagine the art teacher friends we have there would jump on this for interested students. That's the other important part, generating and feeding the interest of students. I would imagine an online photo contest would be compelling to some. But I would suggest it as being an option, not required.

In everything we teach there is PPP.
(Present, Practice, Perform.)
It seems that the teacher didn't present enough, didn't practice and already expect a performance from his students. This can only go wrong and discourage a learner. A student should be proud of his/her work. That's why the input of a teacher is very important in a learning process.

One way to help counteract against funky voters is to dilute their effect. Everyone should legitimately vote the challenge. |

The voting privileges of these students have been suspended for the time being. We'll work with Langdon to cancel the votes they've already cast on "Fill the Frame". |

Go, SC! :D
I like it that they're here... wanting to learn and practice. I would like them to vote fairly, comment on the things they like and don't like... and be required to enter by their teacher... if it's a photography class. What a great place to learn!
It's where I learned almost everything... good and bad. :D
I do notice a bunch of images that don't Fill The Frame to me... so... most likely, there will be some low votes from me coming up. Sorry! I call 'em as I see 'em.
You should too, Folks! |

Looks like we need to teach them how to vote...now where is that list for voting. And it seems that it's really important we all do our part to get our votes in...cough!!! |

Well, my photo must just not be very appealing to others. It's still tanking, definitely the worst I've ever scored.

We all have those... every now and again, Daniel. *sigh*
I'm glad to see that you've entered!

I will look forward the point when you have successfully cleared out all those nasty student votes. My low 5 score is bound to really soar then. Maybe to a mid 5. |

oh how quick are we to say fie upon them. let them cast away at their pleasure. however, if we are about the business of presuming knowledge of what is hidden, we might entertain the suspicion that there are some very strange entries, even for dpc, just begging for 1 votes. |

Thanks, I knew it would be sorted out, it's been awhile since something like this happened thankfully! |

I'll play the straight man here :-)
1. SC actually CAN see behind the curtain, so to speak, and we have direct knowledge that they are engaging in friend-style voting. Behaving like it's Facebook, in other words :-) Right now they can't vote cuz we removed that privilege from them while we sort out what to do next...
2. As y'all know very well, "strange entries" "begging for 1 votes" is basically a formula for vote manipulation: "We know the kids are zapping us, so let's zap them!" We're better than that though, right? :-)
Peace, fellow citizens. It's not a big deal and it's being handled rationally. |

to Bear: ha. I was not suggesting we zap them, merely observing that in the general way voting goes here on dpc, those entries are likely to get low votes.

Doh! What the same drop amount also?

Had 2 votes cancelled earlier and score jumped .41. :)
Amazing how much two malicious votes can hurt, or even change the outcome of a challenge.
Thanks SC for all your hard work. |
