Science behind why we see it differently

This article explains it well. And once my 7 year old saw the photos in this article she now can see it in white and gold.

even after seeing these photos (saw them last night, cory posted the same link), i still can't really see it as blue and black. sure, i get it, the darkened photo on the far right has blueish off whites, and the gold/black bands are now really dark. but it still just seems like a darkened, color casted messed up version of white and gold. the dark bands still don't look black...more like a really dark brown, i guess. the white has terrible white balance, but my brain is saying that it's still white. i still have no idea how anyone can think that the dark bands in the original photo are black.

On my monitor I see it as lavender and brown, lol. I see no white anywhere.

Here's the actual dress being advertised by Roman Originals. Note that you can get it in 4 colors, all with black lace. It's instructive to tab between them :-)

I feel like I'm going to throw up. This is like the matrix, when you're told everything is just computer code and the world is an illusion.

It's TRUE, at least the illusion part...

I don't understand any of this. I am getting old, stupid, or both.

Ok -- unless it was changed in the last 12 hours -- it's because I was viewing it in a completely dark room. In a completely dark room, it was only blue and black. no white, no gold, no nothin'.

Now I can see the white and gold.

I had to ask my kids because to me everything was grey and it was hard to tell the colors..( why I don't vote in color challenges LOL)

On mine it printed white and gold pure as day

Either way, to me the dress is ugly

Getting ready to upload to here

No update on the image. Same one, on my honor.

What I just can't believe is that it made the national news....

Ok, this is freaking me out... I was lurking on this thread and this morning, the dress was white and gold, now it's blue and black. I am losing my mind! Only thing that has changed is my position in relation to the sun. The sun is more overhead now since it's the noon hour.

but then again, the whole point of the print idea was to just see if the monitor itself had any impact of the viewing. i'm still technically seeing the image as a monitor readout. i guess i'll have to print it myself just to be sure.

Sorry, I can't see anything over all the noise.

Like jomari said, noisy pic, and I see white and gold. So there.
02/27/2015 07:42:59 PM · #48
OMG, I see it! Now I can only see it as blue and black.

The dress in the original BAD photo is not exactly like the one on Roman's Website. Look at the lace material. CNN interviewed one of their staff who also claims it is blue and black, But here is the twist. Since all of this hit the net they are making a White and gold version. Hmmmm. Sounds like a marketing stunt done well. Sales are up and they are now back ordered for a dress that they claim does not exist. Hmmmm Well Played Roman's Clothing company Well played............

I couldn't see any blue or black. The gold was gold as gold. I balanced it to see the truer colour, now I can't see the white and gold anymore! I'm trying really hard to see the white again. Such an interesting image.
