The next full moon is coming up on the night of September 8-9, 2014. The early Harvest Moon is also a supermoon. Show us your best interpretation of this rarified light and what it illuminates. Minimal Editing ruleset. |

This year, the full moon on October 8, 2014 is the Hunter's Moon. October is the month of the Full Hunter's Moon.
This is the first Full Moon following the Harvest Moon of September 2014.
Some Native American tribes referred to this Moon as the Full Hunter's Moon, as it was the time to go hunting in preparation for winter. |

The full Moon nearest the autumnal equinox is called the Harvest Moon. This Moon is not just the full Moon that occurs at the time of the harvest. It is the full Moon that actually helps the harvest by providing more light at the right time than other full Moons do.
In years when the Harvest Moon falls in October, the September full Moon is usually known as the Full Corn Moon because it traditionally corresponds with the time of harvesting corn. It is also called the Barley Moon, because it is the time to harvest and thresh the ripened barley.

Can't farmers just use a flashlight?

A full moon looks about the same every time, unless it's cloudy.
It would be interesting as a "minimal" challenge. I have to work on the moon shots that I take to get them to look right most of the time. |

Thank you for the extra explanation, Richard.

Teacher: Johnnie, can you tell me which is more important, the Sun or the Moon?
Little Johnnie: Oh, the Moon is much more important.
Teacher: Why is that?
Little Johnnie: Well, the Sun is out in the daytime when it's bright, but the Moon is out at night when it's dark and we really need the light.

Yes, people like "Moon shots" and I would guess that the DPC shooters could dish up some pretty impressive ones, even with the "Minimal" rules. |

Richard, I expect it's too late to schedule this one for the Harvest Moon, but I bet we might be able to get one scheduled around the Hunter's Moon. Want to reword the challenge with that in mind? |

It's funny, I don't associate The Harvest Moon with the moon so much as I do a furniture store where I grew up. Every year they'd have the "Harvey Moon Sale" and they'd have those huge spotlight things that would circle the skies at night. The store has since gone out of business apparently.
This is Harvey.
