welcome Deve!!! yeah voters can be reallly, really cruel here and yes, some are really tight on scoring... but never take it personal like... ever!
I have learned alot by being here and do everytime, photos are very subjective and I scanned throuh the pics last nght and NO one should be below a 5...
Everyone has talent and no one wants to put in photos less than a 5 but ppl that vote below a 5 we call are trolls unless a photo really did not meet challenge are scored really low or that are just bad in general what fun is getting less than that?
if you get 5'that is a very respectable score ..
enjoy ur time here scores mean nothing here :)) The people are wonderful here and have wonderful talent and advise to share!!
It is why I hang out ;))
I know mine met the challege and its at a 4.3 lolol

"Frame" your subject, or your scene, on at least 2 sides by foreground or/and background objects. It's NOT about "picture frames" or other artificial solutions, it's about using existing elements to isolate and accentuate your subject."

+1 It may seem like a harsh welcome to DPC, but don't let the scores discourage you. If you keep at it your photography will improve and your skin will get thicker. |

As others have said, yup. A photo that performs mediocre in this site is usually one that will have your friends and family saying what a good photographer you are.

Welcome, Deve!
If you go here: Past challenges averages
... and you note the Average score of the challenges as a whole... you'll see that they all finish just about smack dab in the middle of 1 and 10 (5.5).
So... we give and take.
I always look at DPC as the scoring of golf. If my latest entry beats my average... then I win. If not, what could I gather from the comments to do better next time?
That way... no matter WHERE one is on the photography expertise levels... one can still play and learn and win.
Ya win some... ya lose some... no matter what level you are. :D
That's what makes this fun!
