Let's all say a prayer for Cuttooth and all other Hawaiian DPCers, because they are about to get HAMMERED! |

Eeeeps, Mark ( cuttooth) and Jeff ( Chalice) and everyone else on the Islands, take care!
This one looks serious.
From your buddies in land! |

I fully expect both Mark and Jeff to ribbon with amazing coastal storm shots for the next Freestudy. It's all those surfers that I worry about...
Quote from an article:
Scott Murray, who owns the Hilo Surfboard Co. and has lived on the Big Island for more than 60 years, said many residents were more optimistic for good surf than concerned about damage and flooding.
Good luck to you guys. I hope the damage is minimal and the surfs are totally excellent (yeah, that's my surfer slang!). |

I live in Waikiki, which is a flood zone, about a block and a half from the beach. Should be quite an experience. Camera's ready, batteries are charged, flashcards are set. Now let's see what comes our way. Never can tell. We are a long way up the island chain from the Big Island where landfall will occur first. |

From a part-time Florida resident: best of luck, and make sure you've got your supplies and plans in line..
With that said? Just a big ol' rainstorm, stay away from the storm surge and flooding, and you'll do fine.. Remember that flash flooding is a very real concern if you live in a drainage, or even downstream of a drainage. |

So the available choices are to hunker down or hang ten ... good luck and be careful. |

Be safe everyone! Although I live in Florida and have lived through several hurricanes, they can be unpredictable so stay smart and be careful. |

Best of luck during the 2 Hawaiian hurricanes. I went through Katrina in Hattiesburg, MS and that was a wild ride. I just wish I had alcohol so I could have had a party

Here I thought we had a new user named Hawaii and they had fallen off the wagon.
Be safe everyone.

We considered going to Hawaii this month, but as it turned out, my f-i-l had a stroke so we can't really go travelling anywhere. But southern Japan has had terrific damage due to typhoons (more to come). |

I have always wanted to go to Hawaii or overseas but I am too scared to fly that long in a plane LOL!
Stay safe though, thoughts and prayers with you and sending safe thoughts your way

Stay safe and I hope that everything will be alright. Still a slight chance that the second one will veer so that most of it will miss - hope that it misses. |

Looks like we're in for a very wet and windy week. Hurricanes are rare here, I've gone through two of them, Iwa (category 1) in '82 and Iniki (category 4) in '92. Kauai got blasted by both of them unfortunately with the surrounding islands getting some pretty big damage as well.
One really neat thing I remember about Iwa...at the peak of the storm, a ship in Honolulu harbor (I think it was the Falls of Clyde which is the last remaining sail-driven oil tanker in the world) broke a couple of its moorings and was in jeopardy of being lost. A radio station made an announcement about it and a bunch of people that lived near the harbor rushed there in the middle of the night during the heaviest part of the storm and pulled the ship back by hand so it could be secured.
The other neat thing I remember is the incredible surf. The day before and after both hurricanes, the surf was huge and clean. Some of the best waves I've ever caught. I'll definitely be shooting some surf after the storm passes.

Wow! For some reason, when people come together like this it chokes me up a little. It's amazing what people can do when they pull together. (See what I did there?) |

Sounds like a blast, just too bad it will come to late for the Selfie challenge. :) Stay safe and have fun. I was out there a few weeks back when that last cyclone came through, which was quite a show but about a tenth of what I imagine this is gonna be like. |
