Couple thousand dollar richer.
Edit: Oops haven't bought the DSLR yet :P
Edit 2: Seriously. I didn't even play with different apertures, modes, etc. Just turn on and snap.

That's an interesting question. When I bought my first decent digital camera, I went online and searched for 'digital photography contest' and found DPC at the top of the list.
I browsed this site for a few days and found a lot of great photography that inspired me to make good photos. I became active on the site and learned as I went.
I owe about 80% of my current abilities to DPChallenge and it's ability to motivate me to be better.

I feel the same way. I don't even remember what prompted me to do a search for digital photography, but I did. One of the sites at the top of the list was this one.
Oh, you would have to change the 80% to 95% to fit me... |

In my room all alone with a dusty camera, while my mind wonders into the desolate planes of the vast and neverending internet. I become lost and corrupted by all the pop-ups that promise me a better and "bigger" life with everything from enhancment pills to pornographic cyber trash, and once I'm in the quicksand that pulls you down deeper everytime you try to close a window I start to think that maybe if I stop hitting X and begin to send my soul to these sites that maybe they will spare me and fulfill all my wants and desires...but after years of credit card debt, I'm still all aone and still the same size.
Thank you DPC...you have saved my life!! The only way I can pay this back is to follow your every wish and comand and submit a picture to every challenge for the rest of my life.
Clint

****cough****Sure would be nice if you started to submit again.***cough***
Okay, back to the original question.
I would still submit my crappy photos somewhere, someone has to endure my pain along side me. :) |

| maybe just sitting in my room looking at a white blank wall. Now, i can sit and stare at my blank wall wondering how I can take a picture of it to fit every challenge....thanks DPC. No for real, perhaps, just out about with my camera and haven't got anything taken as well as what I have learned on this site. Point and shootist....:) |

I would be a scared, timid photographer who would think she has no talent, now I'm a brave, forward photographer who KNOWS she has no talent but at least I have learned to fake it a little better with DPC :)
Deannda
Thanks DPC for making me work at this |

If it weren't for DPC I'd be out in the kitchen cooking dinner right now instead of my husband!!
Truly, even in just the one month I've belonged my picture taking skills have really improved. My mom even told me the other day - your pictures seem to be a lot better than before. I send her a lot of pictures in the e-mail. |

I would probably be back to composing music instead of taking photography because when I don't do something well I often stop doing it, not that I'm that good at photography but thanks to DPC I developped some skills and I now have (i think) my own personnal style.

I didn't really have an interest in photography AT ALL when I found DPC. I was searching for a child modeling contest, to submit photos of my son (who is pretty darned cute, by the way) and DPC had come up with a million "who's kid is cuter" sites in the search. Not sure how that happened, but here I am almost 2 years later. A few months after being at the site, I became site council kind of by accident. I think my photos have progressively gotten worse, and time restraints after getting a job, I more or less quit submitting. However, I entered rust, and am pretty proud of my shot, so this may inspire me once again.
Without DPC, I'd probably be wasting my time playing online games or xbox...
Here are the 2 photos that sparked my initial search...

I'd probably still be depressed cause I'd have nothing to look forward too {update} button!
Or I would still have my old 1.3 MP camera, and no piggy bank with money saved to buy the canon rebel or canon eos 10D
Wich today had a friend show me his canon eos 10D, MAN!!!!! It would defanetly be a camera for me!

Looks like I should read back what I wrote before I post! You really made me laugh. My husband is cooking two steaks for dinner for Mother's Day - that's the only thing he really knows how to cook. It is really sweet of him so I don't feel like actually cooking HIM right now. Sometimes, I must admit that I do!
We visited our kids and grandkids earlier today and now can enjoy a peaceful dinner. |

Well, one thing's for sure...I wouldn't have seven loads of laundry piling up waiting to be washed while I spend laundry time trying to find "something new" to photograph! :'p
