Considering there is/are no god(s), you'll have to excuse my utter dismissal of prejudices masked as 'morality' in the name thereof.

what makes us human is not that we can control our animal instincts but that we have decided to label them morally acceptable or not.

So only the priests are allowed to revert to their animal instincts? Everyone else is held to a higher standard, right?

Sorry, I know it was a cheap shot, but it was so *easy*, dammit!

Shame on you, Ann! Priests aren't homosexuals!

They're pedophiles!

That's your opinion......not a fact. And marriage was around before Christianity, so you guys don't get to define it.

This what I'm talking about. If the law says it's a marriage, it is. And just a little FYI......there is a great deal of difference between a transvestite, and a transsexual.

The world is "falling apart" as the current challenge goes. Why shouldn't all these things become legal.

Despite the hue and cry of the staunch believers who have their interpretation and translations designed to suit their particular biases, the world is not going to Hell in a handbasket......and especially not if the two guys down the street get married.

This has been asked time and time again, but we never seem to get anything but evasiveness and obfuscation on this point.....

If two men, or two women, and they're over there.....get married, what on earth does that have to do with YOUR life?

Why do you care? Howe does it affect you in *any* real sense? Will it make the mail slower? Cause a light bulb to burn out? A tire go flat? Biscuits won't rise? Cause an early frost that kills those last tomatoes?

It's really and truly not even any of your business, is it?

Yah........but like Ann.....I was having a little fun.

I was listening to a comedy special last night, and the comedian was talking about how when he went to get marry his Catholic fiancee, that they wanted him to sign a contract to raise the children Catholic. He said that was all right with him, but he wanted the priests to sign a contract, too, that they wouldn't molest the aforementioned children. I was listening in the car and damn near drove off the road laughing!

I've had all of those things happen lately. Now I know why. I live in one of the gayest zip codes in the country.

Except for the tomato thing. That didn't actually happen. I live in the northern hemisphere though, so it would take an especially cruel and vindictive god to make tomatoes freeze in March.

if i were a bible believer i'd be welcoming all this end of days stuff knowing that i'd be shortly spending the rest of eternity in heaven...

that is unless i really liked living on earth and all it offered and that heaven was a consolation prize.

The other day I mentioned to a believer that I think we only get one life, and that's on Earth. And to make the most of it while it lasts cause there's nothing eternal afterwards.

The person in question looked shocked that I'd even suggest such a thing. I wonder is it because they don't want to think about a 'no heaven' scenario, or that they never even thought that way before?

Personally, I hate when people start promising me eternal life. Seriously, I don't want it! (Do they think it's a given that we all want to bask in god's glory forever?)

And despite all the slow mail and burned out light bulbs, I wouldn't trade it for anything. The restaurants and shops are fabulous.

I hear ya. We had a studio in the old Ruocco building (Design Center) on 5th Avenue in Hillcrest for years, and lived up in North Park, so I know your area well...

You really have to ask this question again? It's shown in courts cases. If you are against same sex marriage, you will be persecuted.

So much for freedom of religion.

Oh, please....

What about freedom of religion for others, not just you?

What persecution have you actually faced? Have you ever had anyone threaten your life or threaten to burn down your home? Those both happened to me within the last year. Have you ever been evicted from your home? Fired from a job? I've had both of those happen, too. I had a friend (who wasn't even gay) *killed* simply because someone thought he was gay. Has that ever happened to you? I didn't think so.

When white Christians in the United States start talking about how persecuted they are, I just roll my eyes. You're about the *least* persecuted people on the planet.

I'm not sure what religion you practice where your right to worship as you choose is infringed upon by someone else's right to choose who they want to marry, but as a Christian I find I can practice my faith just fine if my neighbors are a guy and a gal, two guys, two gals, or a crowd of fundamentalist Mormons... As long as I love them and don't covet their stuff, I'm able to practice my faith just fine.

hehehe... Unfortunately it's not a matter of if you WANT there to be a life beyond death or not. The folks that you "hate" so much are simply trying to make the eternity that many of us believe is coming as pleasant for you as possible. If you want to take out a little "eternity insurance", just in case you're wrong and God does exist, I'd offer this advice... Be nice to people. That's all that God actually asks despite the stuff you may hear on AM radio in the Midwest.

The fact that the term "gay-bashing" even exists should tell you all you need to know ...

Let's say I don't believe in polygamy on religious grounds. A polygamist wants me to photograph their wedding. To practice my religion properly, I cannot participate is such a marriage. If I refuse, I can be sued. Is that right?

In retrospect, those two murders were a turning point. Before the Wear and Shepard murders, gay people were killed on a regular basis, but they never made the news, and the police rarely took them seriously. An older friend told me about going to the San Diego morgue with a friend of hers to identify the body when his longtime lover was killed in a gay bashing in the 70's. The coroner wouldn't release the body to him because he wasn't family, and the cops laughed at his distress. The man's biological family didn't want the body, so the body went unclaimed. Needless to say, the murderer was never caught. Since John's murder and the public reaction to it, the cops in San Diego take crimes against gay people as seriously as they take crimes against other people, and there's a palpable difference in how they treat gay people in normal day to day encounters. And the Matthew Shepard killing managed to get the attention of the entire nation in much the same way as John Wear got the attention of San Diego.

In my younger days, I never, ever thought we'd be arguing about marriage. In my 20's, we were just trying to keep people from dying of AIDS. In my 30's, we were trying to keep people from getting fired from their jobs, and people were still being beaten and killed on the streets. Now we're arguing about weddings. This is a pipe dream to me.

I am so looking forward to your posting the empirical evidence that supports this claim of yours that animals "Condone rape".

Have you considered the possibility that some of the animal instincts we do possess would, in my opinion, prove beneficial to society. You know, things like caring for our young, protecting the clan, sharing our environment, establishing a hierarchy...and other similar traits.

Lastly, if animals do indeed eat their young, how is it possible that they continue to exist?

Just curious,

Ray

I guess I would wonder what kind of crazy religion would send you to hell for taking a picture of someone whose religion you disagree with.

Nope, and the courts will back you up if you decline based on a religious obligation. The cases I've seen seem to be folks making up some other excuse to get out of it instead of simply saying "Sorry, but I have to refuse to participate on religious grounds"...

Honesty is the best policy, and will be a legal defense as well in this kind of case. My religion requires that I allow my 9 year old to take a sip of wine once a week, and no court in the country is going to stop me.

However you walk a slippery slope. Many of the tribes of Native Americas believed that photography steals ones soul and that it is inherently evil. Do they have the right to outlaw photography based on their religious beliefs? Your religious rights end at the tip of my nose. You have the right to live as you feel God requires but you specifically do NOT have the right to make ME live the way you believe God requires...

Food for thought...

God bless
