The four challenges up for vote, none of them have more than 50 entries.
Is this a travesty?
Maybe we should mix it up with some less obscure topics. Maybe back to the basics?
Leading Lines?
Near/Middle/Far?
Rule of Thirds?
Or maybe other general topics:
Nude?
Side-Lighting?
I don't mind the obscure/though-provoking challenges, but this seems a bit much. Or should I say less.

I agree.
We need some topics that everyone can find something to enter.
Like... blue... or orange... or square... or...
Something simple.
Something we have to meet, but it's not a Free Study or... a shoehorn.
Like... pink.
Oh wait! I don't LIKE pink. Let's do... green. That's simple enough...

I agree. More general. But not nude. |

I like voting on a collection of less than 50 entries. I have a hope of completing my vote in one session, less chance of voting only 20%.
Nothing wrong with a nude challenge. The only way I could compete was if I was nude when I took the shot. The chances of me finding a nude model are slim to none. |

And that makes it too specific a challenge vs. the main idea of more general challenges more people can take part in.

You mean like Motion Blur VI? I have nothing at all against a challenge anyone can enter. Let's write up some of these as challenge suggestions, esp if you can think of a few that haven't been done before. All I'm saying is, I prefer to vote on challenges with fewer than 50 entries because I feel like I'm doing a better job. Lately, I even commented on a few. I can't figure out why a smaller pool of entries is a bad thing.
[eta] I don't have an entry in any of the challenges in voting right now. Not because they were too challenging for me, but because I don't have the strength right now for using my camera.

| I haven't picked up my camera in almost a month. I've got the winter blahs. A good dose of spring would cure me. |

that said, im entering symmetry but i have been just way too busy lately, and i agree with Kelly, winter is hard to remain inspired, there is just nothing outside i feel worth photographing this time of year.

| Is this the steroid error of DPC? Do the ribbon winners rate an *? Less contestants = better chance of winning ribbon. |

| I too go through fits and starts with making pictures... work is full on atm so I'm only stopping in to catch up on the goss and see who's done what. You can tell when I've got no 'real' work on 'coz I start entering challenges again :) (and making more forum posts!) |

| I would not mind some broader topics that focus on some aspect of composition or photography (e.g., leading lines, rule of thirds, side lighting, etc.) to boost participation. They generally get a higher number of entries. A nude challenge is bound to boost the number of views, but I suspect that it might not have many entries. I have enough trouble finding models willing to let me photograph them clothed, and nobody wants to see me enter a self portrait in a nude challenge. |

| To create some variation it might be nice to have photography techniques challenges on Tuesdays and subject challenges Thursdays. Just a thought. |
