That doesn't make DPC "irrelevant" though; it's still a useful school, community, whatever, in which to acquire craft as you grow. |

Been gone from DPC for 8 months or so. Wondering when DPC became such a whiny, bitter, argumentative place? Seems everyone is complaining about something or someone. |

There are definitely useful aspects, but if you want to grow as a photographer, you only need the will to learn. |

Who said DPC is mandatory to success as a photographer? DPC can be a tool to help achieve that end or just about whatever photography-related goal you have. Even if your goal is to suck enough to earn the brown.

You do need the will to learn, but I think you also need tools and resources to help you in the learning process. For me, without question, DPC has been my greatest resource for improving my photography, so I guess I am one of those members you are talking about. No other place provides me with the motivation that the weekly challenges provide, the inspiration on seeing images others are able to create on the same theme, feedback on my work, and a knowledge base eager to help if I have questions. I am an unapologetic fan of DPC. While it may not work as well for everyone, it works great for me. I am glad I found this place. |

This is exactly what I think of DPC and the reason why I can say this place is so important for me. |

I fully support ruminations. It's about time we were compensated for all our pain and suffering here. |

Do we get our ruminations before or after the deja moo?

I like ruminants. They bring us dairy and beef. |

I'm not sure I agree with the implication that I vote the 'popular kids' high. I don't know any of them and probably couldn't recognise any of their work. | I don't know, the photographer he linked to is the biggest asshole on this website. |
+1 |
WHAT?????????????????? Did I miss a joke?? What did I do? I'm really sad, I have never intended to EVER be an asshole... Will someone PLEASE Explain to me why some one thinks I'm the biggest asshole on dpc... WOW the more I read that the more it brings tears to my eyes. I'm sorry if I knew what I did I would try to fix it.. Maybe my goofiness n stupid sense of humor has offended someone? I apologize if it did was NEVER meant to hurt anyone! |

I completely disagree with #3. It's a classic example of trying to impose a pattern on random behavior. There are no standard criteria for judging photos and therefore everyone scores differently. I often have 3 votes for ribbon-winning photos. It's my opinion. In no way do I feel my photo is competing with those photos. |

Me 4, petty politicking aside this is a great reservoir of knowledge - just check the forums for threads on ANYTHING pertaining to photography and there is usually at least one very informative thread to scroll through. |

Me 5...It is no accident that the biggest growth in my photography came during 2007-2008, when I was entering challenges every week. The challenges were a great motivator to get me out shooting, and to get me to spend time every week "perfecting" one or two images. At first I just got beat up in the challenges, but it motivated me to work on my skills, and there were others around me that were willing and able to help. I had to drop out of DPC for a couple of years because my life outside of photography got too busy. It's still busy, and I don't have time to spend 10+ hours per week "perfecting," but now I get more out of the side challenges and forums. |

those of us who joined early on, remember the growing pains of digital photography.
We were trading ideas on how to understand this new process.
Think back to what was available 10 years ago. I had a "brand-new" Canon 300D Rebel.
Here were others with the same exciting (!) equipment. We all explored the new technology.
Working together, we figured out how to use this technology in the pursuit of our own creativity.
Meanwhile, as it will, those among us with talent, such as Joey, and others,
moved far afield in their explorations.
For a long time they stuck around teaching those among us who could/would be taught.
A major explosion came along when a popular photography site called us "the best."
Then new folk came into the group
I don't remember the date, and I'm not gonna look it up. Still, then the dynamics changed.
With the addition of "say, this is good, but if you do this & that, it'll be even better!"
people began to chose sides, and complain!
Meanwhile, this site taught me so much, I was willing to go into a cooperative gallery.
Now?
That gallery has been successful enough to have lasted some 7 years and is still going strong.
I feel confident selling my work.
This site and its trading of information, through the forums and side challenges,
along with those tutorials that are on file, is a strong resource in its own right.
Where are the additions to those tutorials now?
Still, to me, the challenges are a bonus.
The folks who aren't pleased? Well - I have no words for them - they will find their own.

I can't read another one of these threads... holy cow.
I will say this, as a community of creatives, we are waaaay too over-analytical!!
