Let me start by saying that I'm fairly confident that this has been suggested, both here and on the Get Satisfaction site, but if there was an answer by the S.C. then I apologize. Since the DPL has been on hiatus I was wondering if there would be a way to create groups that could critique one another's images in private forum threads and then have the members blocked from voting on their respective teammates images. Pretty much like the DPL, but without the team scoring and competitiveness.
I ask this because I really miss the comradery of it. I miss working together, teaching, and learning. I feel like I got the most out of DPC during this time, and that I grew allot as a photographer. For me, learning and growing as a photographer has been the best asset of this website.
Anyway, I'm not really sure what the snag with DPL is, but I'm sure it involves allot of time and effort. So I can understand why it may be difficult to undertake at this time for the admins. Having said that, I think it would be relatively easy to allow members to group up, give them a private thread, and then block them from voting on each other's images. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe it would be too involved. I'm okay with that answer, I was just curious if this was possible. |

I think one of the problems of the idea is that back then there were easily 2 or 3 hundreds participants in a challenge and recently we've had some with 33/48/51 etc. not quite the same thing. don't get me wrong i'm not against the idea it'd be cool for sure. but with these numbers it's tough to pull off. |

I think what really drove those High entry numbers was the DPL... Its fairly easy to see where the DPL started when you look at the number of entries... Perhaps something like this would help increase these numbers too. Also, we could limit each group to 5 members if necessary.

Either way, I still think it could be a positive thing for this site. It would also appease those concerned with voter fraud by not allowing people to vote on images that they gave an opinion on.

We had a private, dedicated thread for the jury in the last Art challenge. At that time, I was told the thread was relatively easy to create, but the blocking of images in voting was much more difficult, so that wasn't done for us, and we were on the honor system there.

This suggestion (I've made it myself) is "in the hopper" of things to eventually get done. However, SC members have no access to site code, or special ability to force Langdon to make changes.

Hey GeneralE, Thanks for the response. I figured that S.C. really had no control over the changes, I was just looking to see if it was do-able or had been suggested... I'm glad to know that its in the mix of possibilities. |
