Yes! I'm fortunate to be able to see a few pairs of eagles during the summer in MN but the eaglets are pretty big by the time we get there. We do get to see them learn to fly, but it's fun to watch these little ones develop! :-D |

Just started feeding again. First a little head poked out of the sitter's chest (so cute) and then s/he stood up, carefully backed away and walked over to the fish, and here we go!

Oh boy, the kids are loose now. Scrambling time for the parents to keep them in the nest!
LOL - mom just corralled the loose one, stuffed it back in and added more 'fencing' to the bowl.

Those babies are kind of wild. It's good m&d built the wall to contain them

They will NOT be contained!!! Mom/dad is starting to look a bit exasperated. Love how she uses her beak to tuck them back in. |

That one has Rights! 24 hours seniority means a lot when you're a ball of fluff. |

Yeah, but the littlest one makes me sad. I don't ever see it getting fed. And it's always flopping over in the wrong direction :-( |

The Decorah parents are doing exceptionally well this year. Two of the other nests have not had such a good experience. The Oklahoma nest lost one of their three early on (rainstorm), and the Colorado nest lost one last night when it got out of the nest bowl area and seemingly got caught in the crib rails. The parents seemed to be trying desperately to get it to go back to the nest bowl and they ended up with Mom warming the two in the nest bowl and Dad trying to keep the errant baby warm, but, alas, it was not to be.
I very much appreciate the skill and determination expressed by the Decorah parents. They chose their location well - plenty of food close by. Even though these feisty younglings seem to be pushing the boundaries, I think they have the strength and will and mentors to survive. |

It's always a surprise to me about what complete protein packages fish are.
Compact and easy to get at with out fur or fuss. (so to speak). these eagles
are taking advantage of that and the ease of their capture, for sure.
The kids are developing so rapidly, I tend to forget that there is time (Days from the egg)
separating each of them. Probably that's why the last one seems to be 'too small.' That one
just hasn't developed yet to the antics of the others.
I suppose if they all developed at the same rate, the parents just couldn't keep up
with all of them and they would lose one or two?
Listen to me. Watch these guys for a couple of seasons and become an "expert." It can't be
helped. This is a remarkable experience. |

What is unbearably appealing about this little family are the antics of the kids.
The 'oldest?' set off for parts unknown, full of vim and enthusiasm, only to get
so far, and no further, as it suddenly became nap time.
Down went the head and it was "I'm gonna take ten." |

I guess I'm the Jewish mom of the lot and fret that I have not seen the little one eat in the last two feedings. Adam, I know you've said mama feeds it, but I haven't seen her do so today :-( |
