Yes, ginarothfels, me too. The horses and people are still up. Must be after sundown there by now.
There's a guy standing in front of the sign that says goodbye to the world. Showing us his rearend,
of course.

those beautiful horses. they've been in the background all this time; now they are stars of the action.

Okay, that does it. The sign is folded up and the people are walking away. There's one more cry from the
eaglets. will the camera get back up there for another look? Doubtful. Somehow, I think the camera
operator was one of those with the sign, enjoying one or more cold ones in the final celebration?

So, now it's back to the horses and the dog.

And that ends my 'blow by blow' description of this farewell.

PS There were 7600 viewers of this final moment.

The people are going away. I suppose they'll be switching off the camera any time now. I've only seen one bird briefly all day, though I heard one a minute ago.

And now the horses have gone too:(

Now it's off air. I suppose we'll get to see the parents again next year. But we'll never see this batch of babies again.

Seems that was a false alarm. The cameras are still running though they're not showing anything worth watching. But I can still hear an eagle in the tree.

Well now it seems it's really gone. The last thing they showed was D1 sitting on the branch.

I missed the "live" finale, but they have much on it captured in a video and I just watched that. Those horses are hams!! Gosh I will miss those eaglets!!

I noticed that they put a video up very quickly. I will have a look at it later as our internet is quite slow and my pictures have always been rather stop-start. I think there are still some other interesting videos floating around that I haven't seen yet.

I just saw on their Facebook page that there is an eagle's nest (at ustream.tv/seaeagles) in Australia where the eggs are due to hatch in the next couple of weeks. And right here in South Africa we have Pot Plant Owl who is expected to lay here eggs in the next few weeks. So there is a fair chance I will still be watching something. This can become addictive.

They have temporarily turned the live cameras back on, although with the disclaimer that there is not a lot to see. The eaglet they banded is spending some time on the branch, but the others seem to be seeking their own territories, and while they have been observed around the area, are no longer spending time together. The Facebook page indicates they are working on a new channel for a hawk's nest, which may help with anyone suffering from EWS (eagle withdrawal syndrome).

Sea-EagleCAM in Sydney, Australia.

The first of two eggs has just hatched.

Edit: I seem to be a bit ahead of things. The egg is broken and there's plenty movement, but the little one isn't out yet.

For the first month after she was tagged, D1 stayed pretty close to home. Then 5 days ago, she decided it was time to see the world. Her last recorded location was about 85 miles from the nest.

WOW That's an impressive journey. I like the idea of the radio tracking system. As we are now able to see how and when these birds travel. Otherwise, to us, they would have just disappeared.

This kind of reminds me of Puppy Cam, an addiction of mine for the last year and a half. =)

This became so addictive I've replaced Decorah eagles with the Sea-Eagles in Australia. It hasn't been the best experience so far as one (of two) babies died today aged about 4 or 5 days. It won't be the same watching the remaining eaglet grow up without a sibling to interact with.

Most recent recorded siting 185 miles from home. She sure is an independent young lady now.

She seems to be staying quite still right now. Has not moved much at all in the last five days.

They've posted a picture of D1 taken yesterday at Yellow Lake in Wisconsin.... She's looking good (a little wet, but good)

I was just coming to mention that but see you got in a couple of days ago. For those who missed it, it is lower down the page where the webcam is still showing the (mostly) empty nest. Though I did read that the parents have already started fixing up the nest for next years babies.

And she's on the move again. Now in Minnesota.
09/08/2011 08:21:28 PM · #417
She's over 260 miles from the nest now....Amazing. She is north of Duluth, MN.

Thanks for the updates!

Ah,yes. "And we knew her when..."
Thank you for this update.

D1 has circled back to where she was in Wisconsin about 10 days ago...apparently she didn't feel at home in Minnesota. There are maps to show her nearly circular route....

Meanwhile, some not so good news about an injured juvenile rescued by Bob near Decorah. No way to tell for sure if it is one of D1's sibs but it was found near the hatchery nest. From reading the forum, it sounds as though it may have been hit while feeding on road kill.

Here is the forum link (I hope...cross your fingers)...Hang on Little Juvie

Hoping for the best.....

Another update... The injured juvie seems to be a 2 yr. old, so was a 2010 hatch. They do not know if it is related to the hatchery nest eagles, but they may be able to find out. It seems to be doing better today, but there is probably a leg or foot injury. Lots and lots of responses to the forum postings. It has been taken to SOAR, a rehab center in Manning, Iowa. They seem to have an awesome program. There are links to their website in the forum. It is amazing how many people remain interested and extremely caring about these little creatures, and how much is being learned through this process.

Thanks for the updates. There's quite a lot to keep up with here between D1's adventures and this injured Juvie. And I'm watching an eagle's nest in Australia while waiting for a local owl's eggs to hatch. So many birds, so little time.

The Decorah Eagles page on Facebook has a new photo of D1 taken about three miles from Yellow Lake, WI.

Just checked - it's also on the page where the webcam is still running.

Just a quick update on the injured juvie. She is recovering well and is due to be released on Saturday 22 October.
