Finished 9th place with my entry:

I can't complain. It was actually a crop of the outtake below. If I had it to do over again, instead of cropping, I'd have reshot for better clarity and details.

I dunno, I think I like the original better. I got the logic in the columns pretty quickly, but regardless I was drawn in long enough to figure it out, which is the goal of the aesthetic in this sort of shot, right?

edit: osiris1975's is what I'm talking about

My entry:

My outtake:

The entry finished 94th place with an average 4.5460.
There were:
1s - 17
2s - 8
3s - 16
4s - 35

Gleaning from the comments, many could not see "rocks". Or, they didn't mentally process the scene as a mountain. Actually it is Tyndall Gorge, which is characterized by bus-sized boulders. The snow capped grand rocks may have been outside of the life experience of some people. I should have shown a snow covered mountains without any foreground. That may have scored in the top 10. And, my outtake, which shows a rockslide/avalanche zone may have registered more obvious rocks to the voters. I probably should have collaboratively shared the images around to a group of friends to get some feedback. The Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge description said, "Your photograph must contain one or more of these items." It didn't say the item needed to be the focal point, or even prominent.

Anyway, it's all okay. I accept the blame for the image failure. It's my fault for misjudging the reaction of the voters. There were really distracting snow and trees everywhere. And, big boulders are evidently not rocks to everyone. I just renewed my membership here .... yesterday. This punitive beating on an image which meets the challenge and is an okay image would not have changed my renewal decision. Sometimes, participation at DPC is humbling and character building.

Thanks deeby, that is the goal. I'm sure opinions would vary widely on that one, and I don't think the final score would've changed much in the end. I did have a problem with the scissors on the top right being too dark. If I had more experience with lighting I might have had a solution for that, another light source positioned above and behind the setup perhaps?

What happened to the tradition and good policy of posting thumbnail sized images to the forums? I actually thought that was a requirement of forum use. I know people can link URLs of images on the Internet, but it really bogs down the forum page rendering and viewing.

I'm new here, I'll do so in the future.

I second Scott (deeby), first thought seeing your original was why didn't you submit this!

I suppose I was convinced by some well-intentioned advice. :) No biggie, live and learn.

I was one of the people who couldn't clearly see the rocks. Overall, I felt it was a beautiful image, but I gave it a 5.
I don't understand the logic in all the 1's and 3's, however. That's a ridiculous amount, IMO

Thanks for the "5". It helped raise my average score.
