On the trail to Dream Lake after the early February snowstorm.

Tyndall Gorge. This is the Tyndall Creek drainage area below Dream Lake with origin at Tyndall Glacier. Downstream it merges with Chaos Creek and further downstream is a tributary to Glacier Creek.

People are offering punitive votes on this. During the image submission period, we had a big snowstorm. ALL the rocks were buried in deep snow. It was my bad luck to have the rocks buried. It's okay for people to vote low on this, if it makes them feel better about themselves. I still like the image very much.

[Feb. 11th, 2012 06:38:16 PM]

The rocks are very visible. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

[Feb. 12th, 2012 09:31:23 AM]

Okay, I marked all the comments as helpful. And, I admit there is snow covering everything. I suppose if I had shown an image of a rock on my kitchen table, it would have been voted up. Hey, my challenge entry is an artistic presentation. LOL!!!!

I guess it's possible the large, bus-sized glacial erratic boulders in this scene are not recognized as "rocks" to some people. But, they are grand rocks. I understand boulders with a snow cap may be outside of the experience of some. That said, there are rocks in this scene. They are visible and focal points in the composition. For those who voted DNMC on this image, you voted unfairly.

Wow, that is a lot of DNMC votes for a pretty good image with big rocks visible.

:)

I think there's a big difference between throwing a pair of scissors on the table vs working with lighting, composition, and maybe adding a few more elements into the scene. I don't follow you enough to know whether or not you like the studio shots, but IreneM's shot in this challenge is actually pretty good. To me she put some thought into her photograph.

Not trying to discount your entry, but I was hoping to give you a perspective on why you would have received a 5 or 6 for this shot. Of course, that kind of explanation was not asked for, so my apologies for doing so.

The challenge here becomes this: how do you convey familiarity to those not native to the area? It's a beautiful shot, certainly not deserving the low scores, but I think what hurts it in a voting challenge is the lack of a quick link to the theme.

Regardless of score, it's a beautiful image that you can be proud of!

Subtle rarely resonates with voters. Lovely image, though. So peaceful and untouched.

I can feel the weight of the snow on the branches.

Gave it a 7 at the time, I think one has to sit and look with the stillness of the shot to really appreciate its worth.

Lovely. That heavy snow (and more coming down, I think) - adds visual weight to the scene.

a magical land you have to explore - haven't spent any time in RMNP during winter...will need to do it someday

WOW this is beautiful. Surprised by the low votes. It seems to have fit the challenge. Just don't understand votes. Nicely done.

I think it's a lovely photo, it just didn't fit the challenge that well.

Lovely scene!! The foreground framing really sets off the midground trees and background mountain slope.

Don't remember this (and I didn't vote the challenge), but it's a stunning image regardless.

If there is a rock in this, it's buried under a stack of snow. I think the lack of a prominent element might hurt your score. I actually like the shot, despite the huge amount of white in the scene, it still feels balanced.

Nice photo, but this is more about the snow and trees than rocks.
