i am ashamed. i pushed the Advanced Editing rules a bit too far and got a DQ. oh well, at least a few people enjoyed it while it was under review (based on the comments).

my question is:

i requested one of my entries be withdrawn during voting not too long ago.

did that self-removal count as a DQ, so i now have 2 DQ's within 25 challenges and so am "out" for a week? or is is just the no penalty single DQ?

the email from the SC didn't tell me i was barred from entering any challenges. i also submited a ticket to ask, but i'm afraid i might not get a response by the next challenge deadline...

thanks,

-mefnj (with head hung low)

Yes, that's correct. The one you pulled counts towards it and if as you say it's been within 25 entered challenges I'm afraid that's the penalty.

If you get a suspension you will not be able to enter to a challenge.
You will get a message

get a message from the SC, or get a message while uploading to a challenge.

First off don't feel too bad about getting DQ'd due to pushing the pp envelope, I have 5 DQs and a least a few of them are due to that! And yeah, I tried to self-DQ recently but was unable to do so, as I had just gotten a DQ...sucks, but cheer up, and go shoot whether or not you plan to enter challenges :-)

ETA It will be a message from the SC. Check your email's junk folder for anything from them.

Urrrg don't worry about it, I got 2 DQ's in one week once, through stupid mistakes on both, totally shattered me!

You should get an email from SC that explains everything ... but if you are suspended and you try to upload a picture to a challenge you will get a message telling you that you aren't allowed - it hurts, but it happens.

sorry for so many questions...i only received the email from the SC regarding the current DQ.

i submitted a test image to the Shallow DOF Red challenge, and it worked fine -- no message that i am suspended.

i guess i'll take snaffles advice, shoot for the challenges, and see what happens tomorrow....

oops, just got the email that i will be suspended from next Wed, so i guess i'll miss the upcoming Thurs, Sun, and Tues challenges.

Ah well, you can never shoot too much, and the only rule here is that you can't enter a challenge for a week.

BUT...there is nobody saying you can't shoot for any of those challenges, then enter the best one in Free Study!!

So go, have some fun!

You can also post them in the outtakes thread which will appear automatically as soon as the voting concludes.

I only have 3 DQs in almost 10 years, and I still disagree with the interpretation/ruling on two of them ... but that is the nature of rules involving a subjective determination.

How refreshing to hear this from an SC member, Paul. Thanks for being human. :D I love that.

So many folks think you're just people in the sky ...

Sorry about your DQ/suspension. If you're allowed, you could take this chance to jump in a side challenge.
