Okay, I feel like I'm hitting a wall here, and I was wondering if perhaps you guys could help me out. I really want to take my editing to the next level, but still haven't learned enough to compete in the Expert Challenges as far as post-processing goes. Here's what I know how to do, and mind you, I use GIMP cause I'm broke like a joke. I can do all the basic stuff, I can use layers, layer masks, overlays, and I've gotten good with the gradient tool. I'm stuck with textures, what are they, why are they used, and how to make them... What else do you really need to know to get to the next level? I searched around this website, and youtube, but couldn't really find any good tutorials (For the record, Youtube is pretty much how I've learned so far)... So with that said, any and all help is appreciated, and I know I'm not the only photog looking to get to the next level, so hopefully others can learn too :) Thanks in advance

Excellent suggestion.

One thing you don't have a good choice of in Gimp is some of the plugins that many of us use. You could upgrade to an older version of PaintShop Pro for a mere $20. Most Photoshop compatible plugins will work with this version.
