A coworker cut me a flower from his garden yesterday, and it inspired me to take this photo. This is two snooted flashes. One from above left frontish, and the other low from the rear right. I'm curious what folks think of the lighting and just the photo in general.

I like this image and the light on the flower is really good in my eyes.
However I am pretty useless with all things flash and have an awful lot to learn.
So will be interested to hear what others have to say.
Thanks for posting.

PS I haven,t come across you before and just had a look at your stuff, you have some superb shots in there .....very impressed !

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback.

I haven't been noticeably active here much this year, though I still browse the challenges and read the forums daily. Since July I've been forcing myself to spend my "me time" processing nearly 2,000 photos of my boss' wedding while still working tons of hours at my normal job. I finally considered myself finished with those wedding photos just a couple weeks ago. Staring at the same photos for months at a time is surprisingly draining, but I'm starting to feel normal again. I'm not feeling terribly creative yet, but at least the desire to pick up my camera is there!

Thanks for the comment, tanguera. The right light was to illuminate the stem of the flower some. I initially started with just the one light. I agree, maybe a different angle or distance for that light might have helped with the glare?

Love the light on the flower but the vase needs work. Lighting transparent glass is hard. I've found using a large soft light directly from the side works for me. So I would have used the snoot for the flower and a large softbox directly from the side for the vase. You can also substitute by bouncing a flash of a large white wall, piece of paper or fabric.

Good call on the bounce. That's one of those things that I know, but since it's been so long since I've shot anything it's slipping further and further back in my memory.

I don't know what's normal for what wedding photographers actually shoot. The photos were taken by me and my husband, so it's not like I even shot 2,000 by myself. The couple certainly isn't getting 2,000 photos! They're getting a little over 150 solid print ready photos. I think my husband was on the "play it safe" mindset. He shot about 400 more than I did. He's just a casual shooter that I set up with my old D80 and a flash. Actually, me having him as my second shooter was my "play it safe" strategy since it was my first wedding. He got a lot of great shots, so I'm glad he was willing to help out.
