Cedar Rapids - 8/10
Surprisingly good. I thought it was going to be something like Hangover or Hall Pass (haven't seen), but the story and characters was not as predictable and the cast did a fantastic job. Fun and light-hearted, if not slightly formulaic. |

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 10/10
I thoroughly enjoyed it. And if you ever saw the Charlton Heston version, you'll enjoy it even more. Caesar, the main ape character, was superbly done (the guy who played Gollum acted him and they did the CGI wizardry from that)
Yup - I was really rooting for the apes at the end... :) |

Saw this on Sunday and I'd give this 10/10 too - thought it would be OK but silly; instead it's well thought through and very well executed.
Marred very slightly by over-use of apes jumping unnecessarily through windows but other than that, great entertainment.
I also watched The Last Three Days on BluRay, I'd give that a 9/10 - great tension building and Russell Crowe's performance is excellent. |

Spy kids 4D with my son, Alex. He thought it was decent. I started weeping ten minutes in and was confessing to being a witch and making pacts with the devil by the halfway point. By 3/4 the way through the movie I realized there was nothing I could do but accept my situation, and when the credit's rolled I realized that I loved my son and would be willing to endure ANYTHING for him.

Doesn't anyone go to the movies any more?
The Hunger Games - 8 (my kids choice)
Quite a gripping film really. I liked it more than I thought. |

John Carter: 3. Pointless and preachy but too competent to laugh at. So almost no fun at all. |

21 Jump Street - imdb
21 Jump Street - Rotten Tomatoes
9/10
Saw it yesterday, 109 minutes of pure laughter.
(I really can't remember the last time I laughed that hard in a movie)

5 Deadly Venoms
9/10 - Right up ridiculous kung-fu movie. Where the Wu-Tang Clan got a lot of the quote from their first album.

John Carter..3
A good story that was twisted for the screen play to "improve it". It's only saving grace was seeing it in IMAX, so it was a great display of technology, bit you could practically see the film makers getting so wrapped up in how they were making it, that they lost why they were making it. It looks like this film may set the new record for losing money.

Hmmmmm...I watched the Swedish 2009 version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" on Netflix.
YIKES! I guess I should have read the synopsis more closely first...quite a fierce movie.
I was so horrified I didn't get any of my laundry folded!

"Until the Light Takes Us" - a look into the Norweigan Black Metal scene that was implicated in several church burnings and look at the murder of one of the prominent musicians in the scene. It was totally different.

Another rocking Kung Fu movie.
Jet Li kicks the poop out of so many Japanese.
This weekend I'm going to try and plow through my new box set. Some of them look absolutely terrible.
