That's definitely a tip-off that the movie isn't so great... |
I never said the movie was great, just the lighting. I don't think any of the movies lived up to their potential, but the last movie was particularly disappointing because, well, it was the last one.
Not all movies aimed at kids are terrible, guys! Some of them have well-developed story lines and elements that will satisfy multiple demographics.
Art, you should totally make those glasses and the cape a part of your daily fashion. |

With that said, last movie I saw was Trust. It was pretty good, but scary. Definitely not a feel good movie. Parents really need to watch it. I'd rate it 8/10. |
I saw the first one.thought it was ok, a bit of the rest, took my son to see the final part of the final movie, it was watchable even for those who are not fans. |

Zookeeper - 1/10
Absolute rubbish. What were they thinking? - "Let's make another movie about animals that can talk, and ...erm... we'd better shoe-horn a totally predictable love-story sub-plot on top of it. That'll do"
I only gave a '1' cause of the gorilla.
Source Code - 8/10
Groundhog Day meets Quantum Leap meets Twelve Monkeys meets The Matrix ... you get the idea.. lol - Really good concept and well acted, the special effects are great, and it'll leave you thinking for days afterwards. |

And I'm going to bring the thread back to Potter *cackle*
7/10. I read the books for the first time when I was twelve, before the movie was released so it really does feel like an end of an era for me. Makes me sad and nostalgic.
The movie is moody and effective enough though the ending didn't have the nth of the emotion as when the knights were spelled to protect hogwarts. The last duel was very public in the book but in the movie it was very disjointed. That sense of triumph is lost because of the lack of audience.
David Yates does present gloom and doom very prettily. The scene where voldemort walks through the blood of the slain goblins wouldn't have happened if the guy who did the first movie was still directing but Yates is slightly too subtle at times for the non observant noobs.
The 3d was seriously pointless. There is zero 3d eye candy in the film.

I completely adnire J.K. Rowling as she turned her life around on this book series. The original movie, The Globlet of Fire, and the last one are my favs from the movie series. I enjoyed watching the young actors grow up and become successful adults. All around a win - win. |

I'll say. I took the kids to see it, and even they mostly just sat there squirming in the seats wondering when it was going to be over. I've not seen a worse film in a long, long, LONG time.

Super 8 (in IMAX).
9\10
JJ Abrams knows what he is doing! Train crash scene is amazing and lighting throughout is among this best I've ever seen.
The kids are great actors. Drops a point because it isn't without cliche. But as a summer movie, it's an incredibly well done diversion.
IMO - paying extra for IMAX is worth it. Would be good on any screen though. |

Arrietty - 10/10
Superb. From the people that did 'Spirited Away' this is a beautiful piece of animation. In fact, it's pure art. With the detail and care that went into the artwork every frame deserves to be hung in a gallery.
The music and even incidental sound effects are brilliantly done.
And the plot, based on 'The Borrowers' is a refreshing change from the Hollywood-ending 3D CGI blockbusters that we've seen too much of over the past few years.
Excellent, recommended, go see it.
ETA: And 100% rating on rottentomatoes.com can't be bad.

Mary and Max - 8/10
Claymation story of two distant penpals. The first half is very sweet, but the second half gets pretty dark. |

Captain America. 8/10
There have been a few other Captain America movies over the years, but they were usually lame and deviated from the WWII origin story. This one nailed it and did the character justice. The Red Skull was perfect as well. I am biased, however, as (along with Iron Man) Cap has always been one of my favorite comic book characters. Though I also loved Iron Man, I did prefer this movie, as I found the portrayal of Tony Stark to be a conceited ass, so he was harder to empathize with.

Salvation Boulevard - 6/10
Fairly entertaining dark comedy with an excellent cast.
Limitless - 8/10
Excellent storyline. Plot had some minor holes and the ending was a bit anticlimactic, but overall very good. |

True Grit
a fan of westerns, feeling a great one hasn't been made since unforgiven, this movie blew my socks off. The main character (14 year old girl) was so wonderful cast and acted she steals the movie from an also excellent Jeff Bridges. I can't find a single thing wrong with this movie and it shoots straight to my all time top 3. 10/10
Paul
i had to give this a second watch to appreciate it, as the first time i found myself constantly comparing it to "shaun of the dead" and finding it lacking. seth rogen really does well as "Paul" and it's a good entertaining, off color flick. Some great belly laughs. 7/10
(agree with art's review of limitless, highly entertaining but how anticlimactic. a better ending would have given it much more punch)

LIMITLESS. 8/10
Great concept/I though the ending was pretty good- perhaps I saw the alternative ending- definitely different than the opening scene...
TRUE GRIT
I'd give that a nine out of ten, point deducted for Matt Damon.
3:10 to Yuma was just as good a remake.
for fans of the suspense thriller,
UNKNOWN(8/10) was quite good, more complex than TAKEN(9/10), and maybe only a notch down, but in this category I recommend THE LAST THREE DAYS-(9/10) Crowe shows why he is one of the best actors we have around today.

is this the one with joey pants (pantoliano)? if so, YES a strong 8/10. complex a la memento and compelling.
ironically, i did NOT KNOW that was matt damon until my wife sauntered into the room and said "wow matt damon looks different". i didn't feel he detracted from the film though, as he was portraying a semi-awkward character |
