Does Not Meet Challenge is correct. If the challenge is "Red" and you shoot a blue bottle, that's DNMC. |

You may find this helpful the next time you can't fathom the forum shorthand: DPC dictionary of acronyms, abbreviations, & initials

And do not misinterpret DNMC with not following the rules and being subject to disqualificaiton. A photo cannot be disqualified for being DNMC. Instead, the photo will just likely end up with a lower score because some/most voters don't believe the image meets the challenge. The only way to be disqualified is to break the editing rules layed out by site council. |

A rigid interpretation of the challenge theme and/or description. |

Well said.
DNMC is not an official, rule-related thing. It is the opinion of the individual who posts it. No different than any other comment--just tells you that they didn't think it met the challenge description. Check the threads about the challenges--lots of variety in the interpretation of what the challenge description means. Some people apply more rigid constraints than others. And some members "shoehorn" some images in that really don't seem to fit at all. It's synergistic, I guess :D |

Please note that DNMCIMHO doesn't mean anything, as the entity that expresses DNMC has no humility and, furthermore, cannot distinguish between concepts such as absolute or objective truth and opinion. |

Such a narrow mindset. :-P

Ignore DNMC. Every challenge is a free study.
Disparaging voters who fail to see a connection to the challenge is no different than disparaging those who make any other type of critical comment about the image. It's the photog's responsibility to make the connection obvious enough or accept lower votes.
Now you've gone and made me cranky. ;-) |

Since we're on the subject - Look at all the narrow minded voters on JJ's fridge entry. I generally love JJ's work, but seriously...

For a few ideas of DNMC check this out!
I was very surprised that, for a 24hr challenge, there were so many entries!
Surely its time to do it again?
And this!

"What does DNMC mean?"

DNMC means: I am not creative or artistically intelligent enough to look for or see a connection between the challenge description and the image.
My ability to think or act in a creative or artistic way can only be graded as: "FAIL" and so, I give out DNMCs to prove that I am totally art-blind.
Personally, I like JJ fridge entry, very artistic, and even fit the challenge - if you read titles also.
Art without creativity is called TV (artistic TV is called cancelled). |

Might as well call every challenge a freestudy if DNMC is only a failure on the part of the viewer. I usually give a wide interpretation and open mind on the topic when voting, but it is not unrestricted. I often give the benefit of the doubt only to find later on that the photographer didn't feel it suited either, but it still did well because it was a visually strong image and too many people like me give the benefit of the doubt.
There have been rare cases where I was harsh with my DNMC votes, such as the two "missed focus" challenges where some people entered sharply focused motion blur shots, claiming "blur is blur". Blur was not the topic. What would have happened if I entered an OOF shot in the motion blur challenge?
Added: Guess this means I am not creative or artistically intelligent...

Actually, DNMC is invariably the opinion of its author, given freely in response to the entry. Who could ask for anything more? |
