Folks - this is a flower challenge not a studio challenge. All shots that look like they are studios will get 1s, unless they have flowers in them.... |

whew! all voted out. so much for the single open challenge per week not creating a deluge of entries (please bring back the 2 challenge choice!)
some stunning images (i think i gave out the most 6+'s ever). but quite a few overblown or flat images, too.

Only one of my commenters said they thought it is nice and then explained why they gave it a 1. I do appreciate it when someone explains a low vote and I don't necessarily dissagree with their reason.

you would have to have such an offensive picture for me to hand out a 1...in this challenge my lowest votes are 4's...it's been awhile since I've handed those out (I realize the effort and courage it takes to enter a picture and I really feel that needs to be acknowledged and giving a 1 in challenges is just plain insulting...IMO)...I'm trying to give a good comment as to what does or does not work "for me" |

Well I screwed up with my entry. Should have gone with a different one.
It's only my 4th or 5th challenge entry but heading for my PW.
I honestly don't think I'll get brown but plan to hit bottom 10. :) |

Sigh, I was looking forward to voting on this challenge, but I don't think I can anymore. Usually, I am pretty good about separating my own score from voting, but this time I just really love my photo and think it is WAY better than a lot of others, so I don't think I could help downvoting people. |

I do not care much about scores (afte couple of years on DPC) but I do think is fun watching... and I do have to admit that I hopped a bit more for this entry (as it also have some eye candy IMHO). All comments are positive hehe
I am very happy with my entry and the score is jumping from 5.8 to lowest 5.5.

Saw some pretty flowers out yesterday while out walking.... thought, maybe I should come back with my camera.... but I kept walking... current score.... 0.0000.

I think the challenge shows how hard it is to make a really good flower photo. People think it's easy but there are only a handful that are really outstanding photography. I tried to comment on every photo but only got to 100. Will keep at it. Comments are so helpful.
My score peaked at 6.0 but has only gone down from there! Currently at 5.6.

great critical comments that point out something SO obvious to me now that i wish i'd seen before.
voting and commenting now...as i believe wendy said, with this many flowers you need to do it broken up in chunks or they start to get monotonous...but really overall nice work. |

Hah. Mine started with a 3.x, which did not surprise me, there's a lot of snapshot to it. Flowers are dismissed as 'done to death' & 'easy' so I was amazed at the number of entries. I was amazed & surprised to see the challenge. Flowers are not easy to shoot, especially out on location in the wind & sun. I'm seeing familiar problems like blown color, missed focus, & cluttered composition. I want to comment on every one but I'm nervous about it because I probably have too much to say. I write comments & then don't post them. Anyway, congratulations to all those who entered studio-quality shots from the garden. Like VaWendy I take it for granted that everyone followed the rules. |

please write your comments...I for one like to receive them...you might get the occasional "what the..." for doing it...but really it's rare...I usually put IMO or JMO as I don't think that it counts for much...also by putting into words what your do or do not like about a photo really helps YOU to work on your photos. (at least it has for me).
Probably the easiest fix that I see repeated in most of the challenges is noise filters...mind you I didn't know what they were for a long time, when I discovered what they could do for my photos it was an amazing difference. The funny thing is that you don't have to spend alot to get a good filter. |
