Yes. The number of views and the contacts that come out of those views. With contacts I mean both getting to know people and sharing about photography and becoming friends (not in the Facebook sense, but in the sense of people interested in similar things), and also contacts from people wanting to purchase prints, or contacts from magazines for interviews/publications, and similar things. The number and variety of views/contacts you get from 1X-published work can't be beat.
The other things is that 1X is planning to open a prints shop, where published images would go for sale as prints directly through 1X (kinda like Artflakes or art.com or other similar places). So getting published has the advantage of potentially being able to sell prints directly through them.
But personal satisfaction is the big one. |
Thanks, Ursula. Being a realist and sometimes an optimist I will make it my goal for 2012 to get published on 1x (for personal satisfaction, I am an amateur). This year a 6 at DPC in photo impressionist style will make me happy. Back to work! It is a long and winding road covered with browns :) |

Here is the link to Lev's publication as it appeared online here. His photos are on pages 72-75 (if you want to take a look, better switch to full screen).
They found him via 1x, as I said, but many of these images were rejected at 1x. :) |

thanks for the plug, Ben! just a small correction, it is not their magazine, it's an unrelated Portuguese magazine called "DP Arte Fotografica" (never heard of it before, but was pretty tickled when they offered a publication).
oh, while I am at it, here is my latest reject

The 1X crew attempts to process all submitted images within 1 week's time, but mine have been taking up to 2 weeks to get rejected. I think they're likely overworked and burned out. [/quote]
I'm jealous. Usually takes just a day or two for my rejection. |

Rejected in 3 days. Took 2 days to get into the queue, and then was rejected in less than 24 hours :-)
I guess Ursula's better at this kinda stuff than me :-) |

Hey Lev,
Great spread in the magazine! You know you can order a hard copy of the DP Arte Fotografica directly through them using Paypal? They contacted me through 1x too asking to submit (2 days before the cutoff!), and much to my surprise I got several images in their "Abstract" issue a few months back.
I have a couple of copies of the issue now (took a while to get them in the mail) and it really is quite a thrill to have it in hand :)

Thanks, Brent, I already ordered mine! :) So the print quality is good? I was not sure, so I only ordered one copy :)
BTW, I found your published abstracts here. Great job, congrats!

Thanks Lev :) The print quality of the magazines is actually very good on decently thick stock. The lightly padded envelope they put mine in wasn't adequate to avoid some slight corner damage during transport. But it wasn't that bad and hopefully yours will arrive unscathed. |

One of my photos has been in Screening for 4 days! Is this normal? All my other photos were rejected within 2 days :( |

Yes, usually a good sign but my seascape was in for 5 before rejection! |

Oh, well, at least I might get some comments. I didn't get any comments on the others. On top of that yesterday I realized that I had wrong settings when I did the export from Lightroom and the image I submitted is too soft. I can fix that easily and submit improved version. I really would like to make a start on my goal of 10 images in 1x this year! :)

What was the fastest for an image to be published on 1x? |

You can get an instant publish from the screener. I have two that went through in less than 24 hours, the rest 3-5 days. |

I haven't submitted for more than a year and probably won't submit again (the site has moved beyond me), but I did have one publish without going to member screening. Totally surprised the heck out of me. And it's probably the quietest of all the shots I have published there.
