Most of my recent freestudy entries have been entered aiming not for broad appeal, but for moderate overall appeal, and hoping to pull in appreciative comments from a smaller group. If I come in with something in the high 5's and a handful of good comments, I consider it a 100% success.

Speaking of which, I seem to be gaining some ground back.

How do you describe a DPC friendly image? This is a serious question. Thanks.

Somewhat rare territory for me...this is encouraging. I know it's still early, and there are always vultures circling.

Taken a very big dip in score in the last hour or so.

So did I. That 8th 6 is illusive.

Well, I knew this personal favorite image from Feb would tank, but I like it anyway. As the score stands now, it will be a Personal Worst Free Study, and there is a fair chance that it can go a bit lower and be my Personal Worst Of Any Challenge.

Even so, if I knew this ahead of time, I would have still entered this image :D

Get the free pizza while it's still hot! There hasn't been an under the rock pizza party for a while now.

gcoulsonLandscapes, landscapes, landscapes.
Technical perfection, very sharp, no blurring, beautiful and peaceful subject in one of the following categories:

marnet1. landscapes, preferably with sunset/sunrise/golden colors, blurred water is a bonus here
2. cute babies, animals with technical perfection - birds, kittens, horses do well
3. subjects difficult to photograph well - lightning, liquid droplets, auroras, night shots
4. flowers with perfect DOF

There are a few more but the bottom line is that technical perfection rates higher than artistic merit. This is most likely because a high percentage of DPCers comes from technical background (IT is particularly common).

Hehehe! Got a good chuckle also. Thank you all. Very well summarized. Just wanted some confirmation of my suspicions. I'll aim for Spiff's great success also! And maybe, sometimes, in a very distant future and with luck, I might hit the right technical button ...

Are you going to make the top 20 in this Free Study? Perhaps this can help you decide:

As for me...
I don't want to jinx the score but I've got 10 comments in 48 votes so that's pretty cool. :-)

Obvious that the Free Study challenge served as a "second chance" for many of the challenges that took place in February. Wonder if this is usual?

Otherwise, absolutely spectacular images in this one!
