You want to enter the speed challenge but no fireworks displays can be found. Well, why not create your own spark? Rub two brain cells together and make fire, flash some genius, open up umbrellas of stars and arc great plumes of smoke (and mirrors).
Oh sure, faux fireworks tend to go over like a damp squib at DPC... but be brave and enter it anyway. Keep mum about what you've entered and after the challenge is over, all fauxworx will receive an illuminating evaluation here. |

I would think with a name like FocusPoint it would be more a magnifying glass. |

you put a lot of work into this! thanks to your cone you achieved the iconic fireworks shape, but with a different direction... which I believe you allude to in your title. |

I beat you out, too!
I think this photo demonstrates an equivalence between confetti and fireworks. Not only do they have the same function, celebration, but your photo shows they have a similar flirtatious relationship with gravity. You also capture the symbolism of brightness. |

Thanks, precisely how I see it ... I was trying to get a downward blur, but the manual nature of the technique didn't allow us to obtain one within the time limit -- we didn't get around to obtaining the clear film and starting the project until only about two hours before the deadline.
I may try to make a better version sometime, and I'll post shot of the setup later. To be honest, because of the time limitations, my entries sometimes turn out to be of a "rough draft" nature, trying out a technique or idea, and later trying to improve it when there are fewer time and editing constraints, especially if the idea is well-received, but not so much the execution. |

This was shot with an iPhone in a restaurant. No fireworks anywhere near. The details are in the photog comments. |

she looks utterly idealized... painted... and the fireworks are going on in the back of her head, like we're seeing her thought of fireworks. |
