SUPPOSED CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.

Date:2009-05-27, 1:43 a.m.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... Isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons
and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... After I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that?

Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... But I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime.

I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.

Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,
Alex
P.S.

In fact it is hilarious and chuckled while reading it.

I wasn't inferring that you were pushing the NRA agenda Jeb. It's that little message at the end that doesn't really serve the comedy well in this case and just pushes an idea that if we all owned guns we'd be better off.

This is actually kind of playing out in real life in my town. A couple armed guys tried to rob a coffee stand, and someone in the stand shot and killed one of the would-be robbers. So far there's no word if the barista is in any trouble (by the law or at work). The comments below the article are pretty interesting. Some are average citizens reacting to it, and some are family members of the guy who was killed.

Killing another person isn't funny, even if it is in self defense.

Taking a life is not something that one just shrugs off, it will take time to process and deal with psychologically, regardless of how justified the killing was. I've talked to a few people who have killed others, in the line of duty or in self defense and to a person, they all told me that the instant they pulled that trigger, their lives, as they knew it, were over.

Correct, I didn't mean for it to sound as if I thought the local article was funny. It's very much not funny, which was kind of why I posted my link. I know Jeb's post was just a joke, not real, and no one died. But my link was real, and someone did die. Some would argue that the right person died in that situation, but his family and friends posting below the article are there to remind us that it's not so cut and dry. Just saying it's sad even when the bad guy gets what's coming to him.

That's something I've always wondered about.......what do you have to live with if you're the person who was put into a situation where you took another's life when you really would rather not have had that outcome? I've always felt that it's sad that a human being will put him/herself in a position where that's a possibility, and create the situation where someone's actions in response cause them to have to live with the irreparable consequences of an armed confrontation.

Peculiar animals, we humans......

having to live with your actions of killing your attacker is always better than not living at all....

I carry. My worst fear is to have to use it. But, I'd rather have it and not need it, than, need it and not have it..

The thread title doesn't reference killing anyone. The story, probably apocryphal, in the first post is of a "victim", who happens to be carrying, humiliating an "aggressor" by turning the tables on him. At this point, of course, the line between victim and aggressor gets a little blurry, but never mind that; nobody got killed.

A little later a link was posted to a vaguely similar, real-life situation where somebody DID get killed. This was posted, not as humor, but as a cautionary tale. Nobody said THAT was funny, which is good because it isn't.

Of course, by my standards the first post isn't funny either; I fail to see the humor in humiliating another human being in retaliation for what he tried to do to you. But never mind that, either :-)

R.

eta: But I do not belong to the NRA, nor do I think humiliation of others is funny.

Oh goody, I've stumbled onto another "read a humorous story, take it literally and personally and point out all the serious and offensive issues with it" thread. I can't get enough of these. So much more entertaining than the "read a humorous story, find it not to my liking, but keep my negative opinions to myself" threads.

fwiw, I DO find the humiliation of knife-wielding muggers funny and fitting. so shoot me. :P

So... IF the story is true, and the first guy did threaten the life of the second guy and the second guy did the same in return, shouldn't the first guy think that was fair game, even if he died?

I mean... didn't the first guy make the second guy believe (with words or actions) that that was what he'd to the second guy?

Sooo... what's unfair or not okay here? Am I missing something? Seems like the first guy started "the game".

If it's not okay for deadly weapons, then take them away from all of the bad guys. Then, I'll say it's okay for all of the good guys to give them up, too.

Until then... "Carry" on! :)

In regard to the true story: If this happened more times, the likelihood that bad guys would take the risk would lessen every time, I think.

And, I'm sure that the person in the real story who shot the gun at the bad guy had always hoped he'd never have to use the gun that way, but... I'm sure everyone else in the building... mothers of babies... fathers of teens... sons of your friend... daughters of mine... I'm sure they're ALL glad that he did.

I know I would be if one of my loved ones were in that building. I thank God that it's not only the bad guys who have guns.

They hate that.

I think we should cut off one toe of all the so called "funny people" Then they will see there is nothing funny. Ever.
Fortunately, as luck would have it, I'm not all that funny.
