Where the heck can I get one of these... I want one for the first weekend in April, everyone is outta stock...
Does anyone have a wider angle lens that would be almost as good as this one... I need fast but I don't have the cash to drop 300 bucks on a prime lens, at least according to the wife I don't :) I would drool over anything in the 24mm range, but I haven't seen much worth buying or affordable.
Any help would be appreciated!

I'm in the same boat as you!!! Ordered one on Wednesday, they're out of stock... It's a UK company, Warehouse Express :-(
Seems that Canon are being a little slow in supplying them! |

That may be the only way to get one by the deadline.

I really like my 28 2.8. Excellent optics and a 44mm equivalent on the 10D/300D. $160-170.

Update-- I just called them to see if my price was correct-- it is 89.95
But they are outta stock now too!
They do have 20 on order and can put your name on a list to hold one, they also will ship.
If anyone is interested I can give you the number to the store, or I could call them for you and put you on the list-
Btw it would ship from Jackson Michigan.

I'm still waiting for mine to ship but it can't be long now since they have them back in stock.
That thing will save me from the ISO800 hell I've been going through with available-light indoor stuff lately

why are those so cheap?
i was lookin here in town, and there are like $600. I believe the ones i was looking at were USM lenses and also IS ... but does that make THAT much of a difference... 70... that isn't much more than the lens hood and uv filter.....

It is made cheap (plastic and couple of glass elements) and is not water proof, moisture can go into it...
Keep it on dry and safe place! |

It's a fantastic lens though. I love mine. BY FAR, my favorite lens to use. I hardly ever use my flash anymore.

I don't believe any of the optical elements are plastic, though much of the lens body is. No camera lenses, save those for use on underwater cameras like the Nikonos, are waterproof. Some, like the Canon L lenses are sealed against dust and moisture, but are by no means waterproof. Keeping your lens dry and in a safe place is good advice with any camera lens.

B&H has the 50mm f1.8 in stock again. I got mine last week thanks to John Setzler's alert (too late for Portrait). Just returning the favor. |
