Just click on their profile and under it is a section "Challenge Entries" Just click on the last page and the last entry will be what they entered first. So if you go to my page, look at challenge entries, go to page 6 (page numbers will vary depending on how many challenges they have entered) and you will see my first entry "Full moon rising" |
Or you can click on the up arrow at the top of the date column, which just reverses the order. It seems easier, in my opinion. ;-Þ |

Well this was mine. I feel like I've got better gear but have become less adventuresome since then. The better gear that I have now was less expensive to buy--isn't that strange? The Sony DSC f707 cost me about $1000. The Sony a350 w/2 kit lenses was about $700. I could never get this shot again, but could try for another abstract with sharp shadows.

I'll be doing someone else's first entry. No way to re-create my first submission as my son has grown quite a bit since then. |

Hmm. My first one was a bearded boar... I could probably reshoot with a bearded bore and do a bit of a self-portrait at the same time!
Edit: Should the vote be on the quality of the imitation, or on a possiblie reminagination of it?

This was my first entry, almost 5 years ago. It scored just above 6. Funny, that boat is probably still on the lake. Doubt I'll be shooting it again though and if I did I doubt it would score anywhere close to a 6.

so how do we name it if its not ours, do a homage thing, or just use its normal name?
Plus....how are we supposed to recrate it? different and better, or better but almost exactly the same? lol |

The challenge description answers that for you: "Recreate either your own first Entry or another members .. [more] first entry. The title should refer to the original." |

It might make sense to put the original's image ID in the title, maybe.

Or just the user if its appropriate. Each user will only have one first entry. |

lol heres my first, i actually wish i could go back down to Washington,DC I went every weekend to visit my girlfrend in college but now she's all done and living at home again, so i dont think i'll be driving 3 hours for this one lol
I think the fun part of this challenge is going to be going through and looking at everyones first, and for some seeing how time changes ones skill and mindset in photography. this should be fun!
ps.. (ya i know lol what the hell was i thinking) lol |

This was my first entry. It took 5th and is my best score to date. I did a slight variation on it once, so I might try to find an entry of another DPCer |

That's a lovely shot, Maddie! And hey if you're stuck, you can always do my first entry ;-)
I think I kinda sorta managed to do justice to someone else's first entry, for this challenge. However will definitely go looking for other FEs that I can plunder err, pay homage to ;-0

My first was a DQ. They didn't keep them in those days. It's been so long I don't even remember what it was. |

Just a thought...
If you make reference to the original in the title, and you happen to reshoot your first entry... it could be giving the identity of the photog away?? (although not necessarily)
(I'm not entering but just thought I would throw some petrol out there and let someone else light it...) |

I don't think there is an issue. I think you should reference the title. There is no way anyone will know if it's your image or someone elses unless you say 'my' in the title, and even then you could just do that to throw the voters off (especially if it's a photographer that is very well liked). Just my two cents. I think it's a great challenge! |

How about if we use the Challenge as a guide when shooting, & then vote on the shot in the context of the other entries. In other words, since it is impossible to figure out if the shot is DNMC (not using a First Entry as inspiration) during voting, then just let it go. And enjoy looking up as many First Entry shots as possible.
Whose first entry do you think this is?
Or this?
or this?

This could be a big challenge to re-create, for sure!
