... or how about a bet that the DPC User portait challenge is a direct result of the forum thread about troll / friend votes manipulation?? Is DPC being Hacked?

PS - is any one going to try and add a bokeh filter to change the shape of the bokeh?

Well, not really, because that's almost a textbook example of "bad bokeh" in both the technical sense (it's blotchy, muddy, and posterized) and in the aesthetic sense (it overwhelms the image completely). I suppose others may disagree, but that's at best a 4 from me. For whatever it's worth :-)

I second this..

I completely disagree. I like it -- it feels like an abstract painting

Why? It is a camera filter, not a PS filter so as far as I am concerned it will be completely legal as part of the original photo. Tasteful, however... that is a different question!

er, why? It would be completely legal as any filter that goes in front of the lens is. they are a single shot with no photoshop manipulation

No, sir, it would not, sir. Entirely legal, and a very interesting idea. Easily DIY'ed, too.

I have to agree with this camp as well. Upon immediate reaction, I was drawn to the big, blurry flowers, not the bird...therefore it doesn't add IMHO.

I find the lines in the background distracting and the bird's head seems too dark

ok, but to me this one is so very busy... but has the classic CoC

yet this one has the ooey gooey look to it (which is my preference)

People didn't know what they were doing in the first Bokeh challenge, they were still debating the definition - we are all experts now ;)

jk!

How about this bokeh? enough of it? CoC too fuzzy? Complimentary to the subject? or NOT?

To me bokeh is OK, but the subject is not isolated enough and blends with the background too much. Less shadows on the subject, maybe?

Thanks! I'm still thinking about which lens to use, & how. Bokeh challenges are my fav. Though I'm usually disappointed in the choice of winners.

It took me a while to realise that OOF was an anagram for out of focus. :)

I'm a little confused by people's ideas on what is/isn't bokeh, and what is/isn't good bokeh. I think what some are saying is that a soft blur is what you're looking for, rather than your doughnuts or circles of light... Is that right? Or is textbook (good?) bokeh the contrast between the sharp fore/back-ground and the soft back/fore-ground or gradients thereof?
Would this be (good) bokeh?

Easy for me - I only have one! :)

for me this Picture (to post your picture, copy the address, go to the top bar on above and the 3rd one from the right, paste your address in there...) is very appealing ... Personally, I like the dreamy background, but there are many, many others on this site that like the CoC (Circles of Confusion) and have that as a major component of the picture. So the bottom line is to find an outstanding subject for your foreground and do what you like best for the background...

And I think you actually have a pretty good lens for this challenge...

BokehII, my 9th entry in dpc, gave a hint of what was to come by arriving at 1%.
The picture, of course, was magnificent.

It also marked the point in time at which I fell in love with Judi.
