I visit Windsor, Berkshire, UK most weekends and after coffee, we walk along the path beside the River Thames. As this is popular place for tourists, the wildlife has come to know that they will get fed by the visitors. Aside from the usual Mute Swans, Canada Geese, Mallards, Moorhen and Coots, we have other species that are more cautious or timid so it is rare for them come in very close. Normally Grebes and Cormorants drift past on the current in midstream, which is always just too far out of reach for the normal carry round lens.

At one point along the path is a small island with about 15 feet of water between path and island. This is a busy highway for Swans, Geese and Ducks vying to be fed. Imagine my surprise when we were walking by the island and I looked over to a fallen Willow branch half in the water where a Coot was nesting only to spot this couple.

This was taken 1st May 2010.

I was quite excited about this, but our holiday came and went, we had to buy a car for the wife and so didn't get back to Windsor until last weekend, and we got another surprise:

This was taken 30th May 2010.

Hopefully, we will get back there next weekend to see if there are any chicks about!

Some shots from my portfolio. I love taking pictures of Birds. Some turn out well, most don't. It's all about practice. Just like sports or music. You need to keep at it to fine tune your skills.

Wildlife photography is my favorite type of shooting. I just updated my smug-mug site and used this series as a slide-show when you first log on.

We had quite a bit of rain lately and a small lake flooded and the outflow stream to saltwater carried a number of freshwater fish down where they died in the brackish water of the bay. The eagles soon arrived, up to 50 at once, but it was rainy and dark grey (bad) light. I made it over and tried a number of shots of the action, which was fun to watch, but failed to get a decent shot.

I returned a day later when the sun came out and this was the only eagle I found, sitting in a tree and not flying for me. Got a few shots of him making noise and then gave up and went home.

Today was my lucky day!!!!! This is a laptop edit, so it may suck, but the details there, and I am THRILLED!!!!

I can remember when these beautiful raptors were endangered. This fellow was basically just having fun dinking around the pier in the heart of Fort Myers Beach and was nice enough tp pose for me like this about ten feet over my head.

Gooooooooooooooooood osprey!!! LOL!!!

Nice one Jeb, I can understand how excited you must be. Now try not to be too jealous of my recent capture :-)

Meet Dave. Dave is one of two young Wood pigeons that sit in a tree in my garden waiting to get fed by their parents. Dave is not very smart and likes to sit on the gravel in my garden in full sun. He also has no fear of humans and often lets me get very close to him. Though not a great lover of pigeons I have a bit of a soft spot for Dave, especially after a sparrow hawk crashed through the tree the other morning trying to take him away. He has not learned as he still sits in the same tree.

Decided to bust out my Bigma last week, as I hadn't really been putting it to use lately. I was HOPING for some for some fox photos, but the dens I knew of didn't seem to have any activity all morning so I spent a lot of time sitting in the grass of a field at sunrise for naught.
I also decided to try out using my SB900 for some fill out of curiosity. Max zoom and firing at full power, it actually worked despite my subjects being pretty damn far off.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the Better Beamer. Do you have one? I was surprised I got the effect that I did without it, but it would definitely be a fun accessory to use.
Oh, and yeah, that's a goose :)
