Meet Dave. Dave is one of two young Wood pigeons that sit in a tree in my garden waiting to get fed by their parents. Dave is not very smart and likes to sit on the gravel in my garden in full sun. He also has no fear of humans and often lets me get very close to him. Though not a great lover of pigeons I have a bit of a soft spot for Dave, especially after a sparrow hawk crashed through the tree the other morning trying to take him away. He has not learned as he still sits in the same tree.

That's really cute. I had to despatch a pigeon that one of the neighbourhood cats had incapacitated (I think it tried to decapitate it, but failed). In the end I used a brick, and it hit it so hard I sort of pulverised the poor thing - I was scared I wouldn't be firm enough and not kill it with one blow....

In spirit I think ! Have a few "Dave's" Around here. The grandchildren think that Dave follows us wherever we go, as when I see a pigeon I always tell them "Hey, there's Dave the pigeon".

Oh, Lordy; I woke up one morning to find a hawk cheerfully shredding a Mourning Dove in my backyard :-( I know, it's the Darwinian way and all that, but I still felt sorry for the Mourning Dove. Hope Dave fares better! He's a very handsome fellow.

Poor Dave. He may be nothing but a memory soon, or a mass of feathers!! The bokeh here is very nice.
