This strikes right at what I feel is actually behind the whole damn issue. Male sexual insecurity.

Isn't that the basis of all forms of homophobia?

And, I think the border police will be asking everyone "Is your spouse with you?" or be losing their jobs ... seems to me that's accurate and respectful "enough for government use."

Pardon me for not scanning this entire thread to find out if this has been said before, but... I just read the following:

"... in the year 2010, people can still legally be fired from their jobs in at least 29 U.S. states simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity."

I did not know that!

OK, back to the marriage talk.

Not to mention he won't be here in 100 years anyway... This is just hilarious. Plus I would presume the word spouse would be used and the husband/wife terms would start to die out in official language anyhow. One would hope.

Gays can now marry in our nation's capitol, Washington DC.

The first couple to wed there now that it's legal were two black lesbians, clearly illustrating how equal marriage rights are not just an issue for affluent white males who happen to be gay, but for all sorts of people.

Hopefully, all of this resistance will dissipate and everyone enjoy equally,

How many existing marriages do you think were suddenly affected by the event? Did their spouses turn ugly or begin flirting with goats? Perhaps a plague of locusts invaded the Lincoln Memorial? Surely they're trying to think of what to call their marriage now that it's been "redefined" (just like we started called "voting" something different when women were included). Idiots.

There's a plague of locusts (actually, grasshoppers) about to hit (Lincoln) Nebraska, and several other western states. Isn't that close enough?

Yeah, but those would be states where gay marriage ISN'T allowed.

Flash, I thought you opposed gay rights.

This sure seems like a reasoned, well written article explaining how gay people are just.......people.

I was thinking the same thing. A link that portrays gays as just regular people who aren't really a threat to anything seems wildly out of character for Flash. Maybe a change of heart?

You confuse my arguments with my position. Arguing that something is against a scriptural teaching does not in itself make that the position of the arguer. It only makes it their argument. It might be their position or it may not be. That does not however change the fact that an action is or is not in line with certain teachings. Each can decide for themselves whether they wish to adhere to those teachings or not - and many many here have made that/those decision(s).

The purpose for the post (link) was that regardless of my position, there are some participants here that might consider this person's viewpoint (in their overall understanding of the issue). Still does not change the teaching - but it does allow some to evaluate the teaching from another perspective - the perspective of a gay man raising a teenage child with a live in partner - and how their lives are just like everyone elses.

I change is coming. However, my views and believes will not allow me to participate in this month's pride.

You can't be proud of a country which believes in fighting discrimination and prejudice?

When is the "It's great to be straight!!" pride month?

The same day as the "Thank god I'm white" day.

Louis, you never read that article I linked you on IM! Shame on you.

Why are so many girls lesbian or bisexual?

June has been LGBT month long before Obama took office.

I can tell you why without reading the article.
Have you ever LOOKED at one?

Oh, c'mon David... the ones that don't *LOOK* "like lesbians", you have no clue. That's a ridiculously bigoted thing to say :-) Or maybe you were being funny?

I'm pretty sure he was joking. Somehow. :)

The article, I think, is interesting in the nature/nurture debate. One would expect the more stable the figures run over the years, the more nature plays a role; the more variable, the more nurture does. Generally I think most people think things boil down to a heavy dose of genetics and a light dose of environment. Perhaps it's the other way around? I just found the numbers surprising and would not have anticipated them.
