I think there's such a thing as momentary pleasure in one's own work. But that doesn't stop us from trying to do something more, something else, to go on in a similar or completely different direction. Those momentary pleasures in a shot that makes your own heart sing are wee bits of feedback and fuel. Fret not, Lydia!
And truly lovely quote, Terry - thanks for posting it. |

Well said Deb.
I often find myself quite pleased with my pictures and that's what keeps me going, yet I always see if I can top myself. We are our own greatest competition I think. |

well...I've got one in but I don't know if it's anyone's idea of fine art. But I like it! |

There will be little agreement in this challenge, which is probably a good thing. Sure will be a roller coaster I predict. |

I'm too scared to enter this one. Maybe I'll get a flash of inspiration over the weekend, but I suspect I'll be sitting this one out, and enjoying the voting process instead. |

Well said, Alan, though I don't have likely haunts here yet. I'm kinda missing my old haunts about now. :(
I may not enter but I will enjoy viewing and voting. |

I know, I know. I WANT to, but I haven't had much of a chance to get out and shoot. I'll try. |

I'm one of the judges, and I decree that you MUST ENTER.
Do not defy the judge. |

Oh dear. Must try. A little stressed perhaps. But must try. (I'm more looking forward to seeing the work from my idols, truth be told.) |

LOL Alan! I saw those and thought "some of those look kinda familiar" and about clicked on one to see whose it was... I'm really getting old... Does bring back memories, though! :-)
Edit - was this the one you were looking for?
And while I appreciate your appreciation, I don't think any of these would fare well as "fine art" - more that "everyday beauty" kinda thing, or "snapshots with a really good camera" kinda thing. :-)

Deb, I would expect both the voters and the judges to give this high marks in a fine art competition. Taken with a point and shoot camera.
and of course this classic would do well...

I'da never left. I've been spending 20 plus years trying to figure out a scam where I could move back. I'm so done with the USA, I'd do almost anything to get out...but I still do love New York.
Back to your regular programming.

To me, the point of this challenge is to pull something from your own head and imagination, and not to copy or emulate some other photographers work. Take a chance, step away from your comfy zone. A favorite quote:
Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if..."; And then do it. ....Duane Michals
Make a photograph for yourself, truly for yourself, and don't think about pleasing a crowd. Show us what's in your noggin and make a photograph that isn't of something, but is something. To me, this is how art is born. | in a perfect world i agree totally. if it is scores your looking for many will disagree. is it a question of appeal or satisfying your imaginations? paging through this blog some are listing what should be and what shouldn't. you show total impartiality. i tried your approach in my last entry and getting blasted for it ... posting one of my all time lowest scores. scores are not important because i like it and more importantly feel good about it... photograph this one for yourself..... |
