This is truly a remarkable progression. Just gorgeous.

I have fallen behind on commenting. Right after quilt class tomorrow I hope to catch up.

These are now completely unstructured, and most definitely one of a kind.
The third one appears, on my monitor, to be 3-dimensional. I can't imagine
how that happened. But I'd sure like to figure out how to do it reliably!

I'm sorry I had to miss the last week of flips because of a meeting I had to attend. I left here last week just after I posted the Heron Image, so I was thrilled to return to see all the kind comments you left.

You all have put up some awesome additions during the past week. I'm sorry I missed the commotion. Here's a new one I made today from some colorful pencils:

From this: to this:

via the usual horiz/vertical/rotate patterns, but done in "lighter color" blend mode.

Original: Version 1: Version 2:

For this last third version, I left the original layer on the bottom, had the first two layers (horizontal and vertical flips) merged above that in Overlay mode, and the final layer (90° rotation) above that in Difference mode -- this allows the original image to be partially visible, makes the final composite image asymmetrical, and gives it somewhat of a 3-D effect.

here are a few random ones from yesterday's play time...
Originals are listed on the data line, except for the last two, no image for them.
............
I'll answer a couple of questions about the originals here now - this fun image: is indeed on the front of an art store here in San Francisco, called Flax.
the other one: was an unsuccessful piece painted on rice paper with watercolors that has been placed on a light box. While not exactly appropriate for "frame n hang", it has been a workhorse for photographic backgrounds.

Love all the comments on these. They are SO much fun to do. And I'm enjoying all the ways other have taken this technique. Fascinating.

This is the result of using the lighten blending mode with the usual flips and a levels adjustment layer. The white lines are from a fairly heavy application of highpass sharpening with the blending style for the desaturated highpass layer dialog set so that it lightened but did not darken the underlying image layer.

Yesterday during a slight break in the series of storms we've been having we were treated to a rare double-rainbow.
