I have to second (third, fourth, whatever) the Trans Siberian Orchestra posts. It was the first one I thought of when I saw the thread on the front page.

All you fans of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra should try and catch The Ghost of Christmas Eve on your local PBS station.

I cried along with my grandmother every year to I'll be Home for Christmas after my grandfather passed away. Now it's my first Christmas without her, so I guess I'll be crying alone to it this year.

My favorite one to sing is Oh Come All Ye Faithful, because I love singing the descant. I love the sound of "Do you hear what I hear?" and of course, "Silent Night"

As a previous member of a boys choir trained in the Anglican tradition, no other Christmas tune kicks off the season for me than "Once In Royal David's City."

I think we need to put together a DPC choir. I'm a first soprano, who else wants to join?

My favorite to sing is Go Tell it on the Mountain. Especially at midnight Christmas Eve.

Also love to sing Oh Christmas Tree. I remember my Grandmother singing it in German when I was a child.

Silent Night always gets me. I remember hearing it Christmas Eve, when I was in Vietnam. Such a mournful sound, and not a dry eye in the camp. Love it, but I still tear up.

My current two favorite contemporary carols are Downhere's "How Many Kings" and Faith Hill's "A Baby Changes Everything." LOVE those.

I learned "O Tannenbaum" in German in high school language class. :-)

I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day - so pretty and uplifting!

Little Drummer Boy - I can't ever sing that carol without weeping like a baby.

Singing carols at Christmas is one of my favorite things.

Definitely Carol of the Bells, which I inherited from my dad. I also like Little Drummer Boy, as I used to be in the drumline and the message of the song is simple but genuine.

Little Drummer Boy & Sarajevo 12/24 are two of my favorites.

Here's a fun one: "Walking 'Round in Women's Underwear" sung to the tune of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland."

"Lacey things, the wife is missing.
Didn't ask, for her permission
I'm wearing her clothes,
her silk panty hose.
Walking around in women's underwear.

In the store, there's a teddy.
With little straps, like spagetti.
It holds me so tight,
like handcuffs at night.
Walking around in womens underwear

In the office there's a guy named Melvin.
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown.
He'll say "Are you ready?" I'll say, "Woah man!
Lets wait untill the wife is out of town."
Later on, if you wanna,
We can dress, like Madonna.
Put on some eye shade, and join the parade.
Walking around in women's underwear.

Lacey things, missing.
Didn't ask, permission.
Wearing her clothes, silk panty hose.
Walking around in women's underwear.
Walking around in women's underwear.
Walking around in women's underwear......"

Speaking of non-traditional Christmas songs, last night I heard someone hum about 10 seconds of the Chipmunks' Christmas song (Christmas Don't Be Late?) and that damned tune was stuck in my head all evening!

And oh, yeah, I still get a kick out of the Phil Spector Christmas songs (Darlene Love, The Ronettes, The Crystals...).

What Child is This is my fave, but that's because the melody, Greensleeves, is the most haunting beautiful melody ever composed IMO.

I was at a Christmas service a long time ago. A lone cello played the tune during communion. Sent shivers up my spine.

Little Drummer Boy...I can't get through it without sniffing...I brings back many childhood memories from the Christmas Pageant's that our little 90 student church school would put on each and every Christmas...always the same song...every time I hear it...I have to take a deep breath...

There are many that touch me deeply at Christmas, but the Ave Maria (when done well) still brings me to tears. There are many, many versions, but this one is absolutely beautiful. Jewel does a very nice version, too (not quite as good!) Guess I just love Christmas music in general. :)

Of the "serious" carols, I think Adeste Fideles has the prettiest tune ...

Haha, yeah, Tom Lehrer is great. My personal favorites are "Mary Did You Know," and "Oh Holy Night."

Oh, just saw them in concert. Would have to agree with How Many Kings. Haven't heard the other one though.

I also really like Casting Crowns "I Heard the Bells."

Naturally 7 Does a version of John Lennons "Happy Christmas" They are an all vocal group. The instruments you hear in the background are all done with their voices. Not sure if this is my favorite Christmas Song but it ranks up there at the top.
