I have a bio degree and have had several herp courses. I fully link this with school. Would have gave a 6 on this.
If it was a disected frog of similar quality I would have given it a 7 or 8.

So tell me, Scott, when you see this image:
does your mind say "Back to School"? Be honest now.
Or does it say, "Bee on a Flower"?
I think titles can help a weak connection... but not make it fit the challenge.

Honestly I can see back to school in this image and in several context related to music lyrics ( have several songs that I leaned in school related to bees) and the study of insects and pollination and the the broader question as to why are we loosing our pollinators. Not much of a stretch for me. I could say it doesn't have any pencils or books or an apple on the desk so it should be hammered but I don't think that way.
Very nice macro by the way. |

To me it plainly says 'sex on the beach'. I don't know how you can see it any other way. |

Ok, I have the answer to this one.....
had you stuck the frog on top of a math book just sticking outside of a backpack, put a pencil in its mouth and shot it that way....
ROFL
Ok....well, maybe, instead of a shoehorn, this one could be considered an OOBIE? (outside of the box thinking?) |

But, if this one: doesn't say "Household Appliance", that one REALLY doesn't say "Back to School". Sorry. *grin* |

So this image didn't include pencils paper or a school bus, clearly your education was sorely lacking if you never had a science class. I have been on several outings with my children when they went to the local botanical garden, the Columbia river or Mt Saint Helens to study geology, biology, and botany. Not only did they find frogs on these outing but deer elk fish and plants of all shapes and description. Shoehorn hardly, creative interpretation not really how many kids turn in science papers about the life cycle of a frog in grade school.
This image has more comments than nearly any other image I have submitted the vast majority had something to do with shoehorn or DMC. I say open your mind and see what you can do to think not so much out of the box but how can I creatively fulfill the challenge, how many pencil paper and school bus images do we need to see.
I fully expect the same old tiered responses to this post if you are going to defend the closed minded attitude of voters forget it.
Rant complete, back to the game. |
If the challenge was merely school related, then you can argue that any picture fits the topic.
- health class
- geology
- home economics
- art
So your argument would then be that all of these photos met the challenge. I'm sorry, not one of these photos makes me think of going back to school. (well, maybe art's :D )

What???? You don't see it related to school... Its supposed to be the night before your first day of school. You know, when you're all like tired and stuff, and watching the sunset... Whatever, I don't need to explain myself to you people... It says back to school to me... ;)

I get it. The message is loud and clear shoot something:
cliché (US: /klɪˈʃeɪ/ UK: /ˈkliːʃeɪ/, from French), is a saying, expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, rendering it a stereotype, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel. The term is frequently used in modern culture for an action or idea which is expected or predictable, based on a prior event. It is likely to be used pejoratively. A cliché may sometimes be used in a work of fiction for comedic effect.
As far as the smoker for health class the work is too nice can't say I have ever seen something like that in a text book or presentation. However I have seen work like that in my high school photography class.
similarly the landscape shot is much to good for any textbook that I have ever seen.
The noodles in the box classic art class type stuff.
and I can tell you my son when he was 5 would have brought home something like art on his first day back to school.

The problem here is that YOU made the choice to reach, and are unhappy that you missed.
The voters spoke......you weren't able to convince them that your vision met the challenge.
How is this all of a sudden a condemnation of the system because you got slapped in one challenge?
If that's the case, then none of your other images that scored well should count for anything if the voters are Philistines, and the challenges aren't being interpreted correctly.
So far, you haven't been able to sell your image to so much as one other person in this thread, even with an explanation.
Maybe you should consider the possibility that you just fell short. |
