Sorry, I thought I had posted this already -- so this is coming out right as the class starts (I was going to bump my original thread -- whoops!)...

The folks at creativetechs (who also put together the free 4-week and 10-week photography courses, as well as the free 6-month (yes, 6 MONTH) Photoshop Course)... have put together a free 10-week Lightroom class.

Week 2, Sep 21 - Importing
Week 3, Sep 28 - Library Module pt1
Week 4, Oct 5 - Library Module pt2
Week 5, Oct 12 - Develop Module pt1
Week 6, Oct 19 - Develop Module pt2
Week 7, Oct 26 - Exporting
Week 8, Nov 2 - Juggling Catalogs
Week 9, Nov 9 - Output Module

hmmm, that sounds exactly like my beginning digital photography class course outline at my community college. It wasn't free, but close to it.

bump - about to start this week's class. Been forgetting to bump these topics the last couple of weeks (well I was gone last week, so that doesn't count)... Anyone finding these useful? I think the creativetechs classes are awesome, but don't want to pester folks of no one is coming...

This is the first time I've seen this thread... I think I might try to catch the photoshop class. This looks like an interesting set of classes. Thanks for sharing!

Just signed up. Got the subscription confirmation but not so many details yet.

Are the previous modules available in an archive somewhere?

You can watch live for free; to get the past modules, you need to pay. I believe they said it was $15 a module, but you can sign up for the whole course for $75; it was $50 if you buy by week 6 or so. Just from memory of what they said today.

I watched and listened for the first time today. I use lightroom a lot, and know it pretty well, but I did pick up a few pointers just watching how someone else used it.

No offense but it's all just basic stuff that most of us already know. the information is good for those that really don't know anything or if you are completely new to Lightroom, photoshop, or photography. It's not really for an advanced user. Not saying that I don't attend waiting to catching something that I don't know but I have a hard time staying awake during the classes because it's all old to me.

Again this is just what I observed. I like what they are doing and I'm all for it. but if your a person that is more of an advanced user/photographer don't go out of your way to attend the class, you won't miss much.

Okay, I'll keep posting new schedules and updating threads when I can, then. I just didn't want to be preceived as spamming or being a pest. I think they are a great series of classes.

L2 - Excerpts from previous weeks are available from each classes page. See the "Categories" menu up on the top menu bar -- select the class you are interested in, and you'll get a list of available excepts you can watch. Excerpts range in time from the 15-20 minutes, to the entire class (in cases where there were technical difficulties during the live feed, and they made the entire class available to everyone). For example:
6-Month Photoshop Course Exceprts
10-week Course Photogaphy Excerpts
10-week Lightroom Course Excerpts

nshapiro's price list is correct. Detailed pricing is available on the web site. You can buy individual weeks of each class, entire "classes" at a time, or (I think the best deal), you can pay a monthly fee and download ALL the classes (from ANY class they have). Right now the monthly fee is $50/month, but it will go up in Dec/Jan. It also offers access to the entire back-catalog of classes, so it's really a good deal (and also why the price goes up in a few months).

Note that they also have classes for Dreamweaver, Flash, other other topics. I'm not taking those classes myself, so I haven't post threads for them.

Dirt_Diver - That's a very fair assessment for the Lightroom and Photography classes, yes -- and something I discussed in length in a previous thread. Not to sound defensive, but I don't think anyone is representing these as "advanced" classes either way. They are a great review, though, even for advanced users. The 6-month photoshop class, though, in my opinion, will certainly be venturing into advanced territory very soon -- Jason is a great PS instructor, and while the current classes have been laying a groundwork, he's ready to break out the heavy-duty classes in the upcoming weeks, and I think they would be worth checking out.

To an extent, it's like any class you might try -- advanced or not -- you can still learn things from watching someone else cover a subject. I teach motorcycle safety, and I have some students who have never been on a motorcycle before, and I have students who have ridden all their lives, but the same students can take the same class and both learn something from it, even if it's just a fresh perspective.

Anyway, that's what the free life audits (and preview excerpts) are for -- check them out and see if the classes will be of benefit.

There is a chat room during classes as well, which is pretty active during most of the classes. I think the time spent in the chat room networking and answering one-anothers' questions is worth the class-time alone. Just another thought.

I'll be gone during class-time today, I'm giving this an early bump if anyone is interested. Part 2 of the develop module today -- localized edits, setting defaults, creating presets, etc.

I'll be gone again during class-time today, I'm giving this an early bump if anyone is interested. Covering exporting today; also going to do some show-and-tell on LR3Beta (whoopdedoo). ;)

Class starting now. Today's topic is "Juggling Catalogs" -- including sharing/moving catalogs between computers, etc.

I watched a few of these and found them very interesting. They also made me realize the learning curve in Lightroom is a much smoother ride than PS. I do a heck of a lot of my PP in Lightroom now but still use PS as a fine tuner to my images. Cropping in LR is much more inquisitive than in PS and I hope it becomes standard in PS too one day.

Due to technical difficulties (also known as the recording software crashing and... well, not recording anything), this week's class is being "re-taught" live today at 2pm PT, about 3 hours from the time of this post.

Last class today, starts in 10 minutes. Covering external editors, including Photoshop integration.
