Don was a cool guy. I got to play with him around 1989 or 1990. He was more entertainer than musician at that point, was a joy to work with.

I love Guy Clark!

I have over 300 record albums sitting sadly on a shelf. They haven't been listened to since the late '80s, when I was in high school.

The good news is that my mom decided that her victrolla isn't doing anybody any good in her garage and I'm hoping to find some muscle this weekend to move it into my home.

I did a paper on it in Psyc class in the early 90s. Some parts are very nice. Some are meaningless but many spots are great !

LOL I can remember record players....but barely. I owned one when I was quite young that played the old 45's. I am actually trying to sell some "records" like Peter Frampton etc. I really don't miss all of the cracks and pops.

A good quality component system, high quality needle, and cleaner brushes, and the sound was incredible..

Wasn't he touring with Charlie Haden around that time? I have a live disk around here somewhere of that band from around that time.

Right now, a duo recording, David Murray and Dave Burrell, Windward Passages.

Actually, he had just released Multikulti in 1988-9. He was working with SF based Peter Apfelbaum's Hieroglyphics Ensemble. It had a world beat feel and was pretty cool stuff to play.

I'll have to check that out. The disk I was thinking of was a live trio recording, Haden, Cherry and Blackwell, from July 1989 called The Montreal Tapes. It's quite engaging, and everyone was in good spirits judging from the occasional banter between the musicians.

I need to check out your Wayne Bergeron too. I tend to be kind of picky with my big band music, but he's well regarded, I know, and probably someone I should check out.

I look at it this way (And its the same way I look at some of the more recent Saves The Day stuff) they aren't bad albums, they just aren't the same band that hooked me on the first one.

Most recent album was "Hours After" by Sun Ra and his Arkestra. I was playing some of their stuff for my boys this evening after dinner, telling stories of playing with various jazz groups through the years.

Here is a taste of this musical genius. Sun Ra on You Tube

I miss Mr Ra, Marshall Allen and the rest of those guys...they were a blast to play with.
