No, the question about Ken is his status as an idiot or not an idiot.

To John Wharten-

I have been scammed by your company and don't care about how you evaluate photos! What I want you to answer is why does it takes so long to get what we already paid for? My guess is you won't answer or you will direct me to your other site...not interested in anything from any of your companies. Vanity Publishing, globat.com...WHATEVER...not interested. What I am interested in is why this takes so long to get the book and why some of us have never received the book or our money back. I have been waiting for OVER a year to get my book! Why is that? Are spending some alone time with my photo for a proper evaluation? What gives dude! Provide all of us whom you have scammed an answer not another membership offer to another site - you're an idiot if you think I would do this again!

Please reply with the answer, John.

Oh, have you ever heard of KARMA? Ya, it comes around...10 fold. Please reply!

I also fell for this....then i checked it out on google and asked for an immediate refund. I learned now that i should look into something before i jump the gun. I receivied half a refund which was 62.00, my book and bio and all that was 112.00, they gave me half my money then sent the damn plaque they said they wouldnt send. So i chalked it up as lessoned learned and i hope all others do their research although alot of people must fall for this considering it is still happening.

well its to bad I didnt find this before. I enetered my photo, and of course won. was so excited. I got the book and the plaque. Everything is spelled right and everything was on time when they said it would be. I will not be joining the global race and am dissapointed that no one actually critiques the photos. It kind of puts you off....was very dissapointed. I hope that more ppl become aware and do research before hand. I know that I will from now on!

I’m embarrassed to admit, that I also have been scammed by Mr. John Wharten.
I bought the book under the same emotion and good feeling of having a photo taken by me published in a photo book for the first time. A few days later, I felt something wasn’t right and I decide to do a little search. It didn’t take me long to realized what I have falling in to.
After found out that I had been scammed, I immediately emailed Boulevard of photographer’s - John’s company cancelling my purchase which had already been charge to my credit card. I also sent him a copy of Sales Contract Regulation under the Fair Trading Act (Revised Statutes of Alberta). I receive no answer.
Few weeks after the book arrived at my house; I emailed Boulevard of photographer’s again telling them that they didn’t understand my message where I exercised my rights of termination of the contract. Under the above act where the law applies to AB, where we live - If they didn’t refund me within 25 days, I’d be getting the total refund from my credit card company. The law applies to them as well. The credit card company wouldn’t assume the cost; they would charge it back to him one way or the other.
Under this law, I am required to return your book to you them, but they should provide the address I should return it to and pay for the shipping costs.
Of course they do not want to give their address so there was no way I could return the book.
After exchanging few emails, they did fully refund my purchase and I still have the fake/glued book.
The bottom line is, if you fall for it as I did, please check it out the legislation of internet purchase of you Estate/Province; you might be covered under it.
Good luck and I hope you’re smarter than me and do not make the same mistake I did.
One day John Warthen will be caught. I have faith on it!

OK for those of you wondering about this SCAM.....and yes, I fell for it.....(almost) here goes...
about 2 months ago I sent in a COPY OF A COPY of a photograph I had taken over 20 years ago. I have been busy getting married and such and forgotten about the whole deal.....until late in the night 2 days ago. when I was sent a message saying I was being published. but, had to PAY for a copy of the publication and award plaque?????? My wife works for a company that has taught her a great deal about internet searching. the morning after I received this notice she started checking things out. and low and behold. on their web-site when you do a search of my name you find the picture in all its glory.....????? with a COPYWRIGHT of 2008 listed on it. and my name "credited" in such small print you can barely read it!.....this was AFTER I had sent them a message telling them I had changed my mind and no longer gave them permission to print the photo. Hmmmmmmmm I can't wait until my attorney gets a hold of this...Oh on a side note: if anyone out their clicks on a link for a bidding site called "swipebids" RUN....they have screwed me out of 159.00

Can you take a picture showing the glued page (so people can see how it is a fake)? It would be good to document it publicly, and I'm also just curious to see it!

In case anyone is wondering what ever happened to Mr John Warton, his name appears as the Managing Editor on a website called www.thephotochallenge.com

I stumbled across this website along time ago, but never submitted anything to them. I received and email from them a few minutes ago, and it took me a minute to remember where I had seen that name... So I did a search here and this thread popped up. Figured I'd share in case anyone was wondering whatever happened to Mr. Warton... LoL...

Ok, so I am a total ditz!! I fell for this thing, HOOK, LINE and SINKER!! I submitted my photo a while ago to Boulevard of Photographers, and recieved the e-mail about it being "chosen" and them wanting to publish it. Because it was a picture of my kids, I wanted them to see that they were in a book, so I ordered it along with the plaque. I received my book and plaque today. First off, the book is damaged. The binding on the outside is cut and indented. Secondly, the page that my picture is on has been glued in. The page is crooked, sits lower than all of the other pages AND has glue damage at the top of the page. I feel so stupid. I mean, the page is so noticeably crooked! Actually, they are the stupid ones. If it weren't for the blatant, horrible, glue job I wouldn't have started looking for sites warning people against them. I, of course, have sent an e-mail demanding a full refund, but won't hold my breath on a quick response from them. If anyone has any other contact information on them, or something I could use to put the fire under their ass, please forward it to me.

Thanks,
Anna

Ouch. Sorry to hear you got taken. You probably won't get that refund, I'm afraid. From what I have read, I think you are fortunate to have actually received product at all.

Hope you'll stick around here, though. DPC doesn't give out cheap (but expensive) praise. In fact, many good photos get their share of knocks. But when you enter a great shot, you will know it. And outside "the ring", it's a helpful and friendly place.

Oh, and here's your welcome basket, filled with all sorts of things you will soon have alove/hate relationship with:

Is there a pair of scissors and some glue in that basket?
10/19/2010 09:11:38 AM · #65
Not following the scissors and glue idea, though I may need to add a few things.
10/19/2010 09:16:05 AM · #66
So she can re-glue the page into her Photo Laureates book properly.

Hilarious Nikon! I have been doing the e-mail battle with them all morning. Bunch of thieves!! I will bombard them with e-mails until they refund. They told me they would send another book. Oh, OK! They must think I am EXTRA stupid! I already feel plain ol' stupid for falling for it! Should have done my research prior. Lesson learned. I still have to read more about this site before paying a fee. Still not too sure about that. Thanks for the positive response tho!!

There is plenty available here without charge. You can enter one challenge a week, and have access to all most of the forums. I played for free for a month or two until I felt it was worth it.

You realize these are all computer-generated responses, designed to fleece you of your hard-earned money. Especially Yo_Spiff, who's intelligence is artificial. ;-)

Pay no attention to Slippy, he recently escaped and resurfaced. And YoSpiff is the opposite of artificial, he is actually Grog, a caveman, and as natural as they come. Intelligence? That's another issue...

Mom, meet Grog:

You have been warned...

Update....
They are processing my refund. I will keep a close eye on my credit card to see if it actually goes through. I guess it pays to hound them with e-mails and threats of going to the media. We shall see!!

Grog, blug, thug, whoever you all are. Computer generated or not, it's been fun.

I am soooo happy I found this site. I wasn't going to buy the book, anyway, because I was happy enough to just be published and know that somewhere out there was a coffee table book with a picture credited to me that people would see! However, it seemed suspicious so I gooogled it. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I have sent an email to help@boulevardofphotographers.com and help@thephotochallenge.com:

------------------------------
Dear John Ingle or John Wharton or Sol or whatever your name is,

You suck. You do NOT have my permission to do ANYTHING with my photograph. I found out all about you. There is a special place in Hell for people like you.

PS - I have UNSUBSCRIBED, do not ever send me anything else.
------------------------------

It feels soooo good to justifiably vent my anger on someone! Usually if and when I feel all self-righteous, I need to take a step back and evaluate how I want to phrase whatever it is I want to complain about (usually poor service - I'm a stickler for that!). But this time I can say WHATEVER I want!!

Yay!

Welcome aboard Buffy. You won't get any cheap praise here, but you will learn a lot. Feel free to jump into the shark tank. It's on the main page, cleverly disguised as "challenges open for submission".
