Perhaps, but it does eliminate recidivism.

Out of absolute curiosity...........
Would the photo in question been DQ'd if his own comments had not been there..?

Cause, I came across this one that states the photog did some "spot editing" which I thought was NOT ALLOWED in basic editing yet his photo is not DQ'd..

Does this mean they questioned him and he was allowed to explain it or was it not questioned at all??? I mean, it was a high placing image.. Just thinking out loud.. And, found it while I was just browsing through images.. So, I wasn't looking for something to make an issue out of.. It just sorta stuck out like a big red flag when I did see it.. Orrrrrrrrr... Are you now allowed to spot edit in Basic editing..?? Help me out here..

The spot editing was only sensor dust (legal).

Oooh, we've transitioned into a capital punishment debate. How cool is that??

FWIW, I agree with the death penalty. A DQ is such a slap on the wrist.

OK! Now let the debate begin on how the death penalty should be handled, Leathal Injection? Firing Squad? Electric Chair? or Hanging? I am partial to Firing Squad myself just because it makes alot of noise. Much like this thread has been doing for the past few days.

Nope....the offender should be tied to a chair and sat in front of a laptop. The computer will be programmed that he has to read every post on every DPC thread day in, day out....reading all the repetitive arguments.....read all the visiting spammers threads.....read out loud every voting gripe and rant thread until he goes out of his mind...then the spammers and angry voters will be let lose on him.

and between reading s/he must continually update his score on a pulitzer prize winning photo just to watch the score go down with each hit and finish in the mid 4s.

Public hangings. Get everyone out from in front of the computers and socializing again, like in the olden daze.

Hi all, great thread.

Perhaps a rule more closely worded to this would save some arguing in the future?

"Your submission must be: taken and post-processed by you. Someone else may press the shutter button if you physically set up the shot and the camera settings. Photographs set up via proxy or other non-physical means are not allowed."

I dunno, just a thought.

Thanks BeeCee :) Nice to be noticed, I trust you are doing alright?

To keep this on topic however: :)

Perhaps jlanoue was annoyed because he realized his shot was gray area or likely against the rules but assumed he could discuss it with the SC before DQ. Some rules at DPC are flexible, some are not. The rules do not state which is which so the only thing to do is try.

He may have just felt disrespected by a lack of communication. A sad event in any case.

I'm on the fence as far as the DQ itself goes. Given everything said I would probably slightly lean towards the DQ just perhaps not the exact way it was handled.

Hmm, I'm out of practice, this is a sadly short length for a rant, oh well. :P
