I remember a team member getting a DQ for stroking, just can not remember if it was in basic or advanced? |

surely you can stroke inward in any type of challenge and outward in both providing you produce an identifiable border (opposed to a continuation of the bg)? |

What about Topaz Adjust - Is that allowed in basic?

What are you talking about, and who is "he"? Simple borders are allowed in both Basic and Advanced. |

I don't remember, it was I think in the 3rd games. I will have to talk to Heini and see who it was. I am 90% positive it was for stroking. He had just finished a side challenge on stroking, and did it on a shot, then got DQ'd, I am positive he said it was for stroking. Cos at the time I had no idea what it was so had to look it up.
anyways, i have emailed Heini, so maybe he remembers who it was

Checking the rules for advanced, I think it is pretty clear.
You may:
apply filters, effects, dodge & burn, and other tools to all or part of your entry, but NO new shapes or features may be created in the process.
Brush strokes as you have described sound like new features. |

Can I ask what stroking is? |

it is where you can make a thin or large border on a shot |

Think 'inline border', where the image extends beyond the border.

After all my years of practice, you'd think differently, but in the end, I have to admit that I'm still a rather amateur stroker. |

Draw a rectangular selection near, but not at, the edges of your image. Now go to edit>stroke and set the stroke width and color. Presto, you have an "inline" border a small distance from the image edge. That's how this one was made:

I always use the stroke command for my borders, but on the outside edge. I never seem to be able to get the line perfectly centered (not sure that is the right word thinking on it - but i am sure you get my drift) when I attempt an in-line border. Is there any way of stipulating x number of pixels from the edge? |

For outside borders, I use canvas size, which is much more versatile, allowing more than one line on the border.
As far as centering the selection to stroke an inline, if you have snap to grid and snap to guides enabled and rulers displayed, then you can set up a grid spacing based on how many pixels in from the edge you want to be, then drag guidelines to snap to that grid and the selection will snap to the guidelines. Thats' how I do it.

Stroking is for kittens and rowboats. If you're referring to borders, then simple borders are allowed in everything but Minimal Editing, so maybe it was one of those challenges? |

I don't know, I think I must have made it up in my head at some point. I have now emailed Tim to see if he remembers. If he doesnt then I did make it up and I have completely now lost my mind. |

I've heard of going blind if you stroke too much, but losing your mind?
I guess that can happen. |

I did check all his entries, and he never has had a DQ... As for your mind, what do you mean "now"? I thought you misplaced it a long time ago?
