41% - 70% 5 upload slots (after 3 pictures screened)

90% - 100% 10 upload slots (after 3 pictures screened) |
I think if you buy a membership you get more upload slots, too. But even if you have more upload slots, you can only use them once in a week's time. That includes if you get published as well. So if you have three slots a week, you submit three, two get rejected, one gets published, you have 0 slots remaining for the week. It's probably a good way to keep the stream of inputs to a manageable level. |
Ok here's the question. I had 10 slots but was only allowed to enter 3 a few nights back. I entered Three last week. They were published, I was then given 10 slots but only allowed to enter three. Now I have 5.
I'm till not following... |

I had good hopes for this one:
but no way...
Anyone here willing to help by providing his point of view and open critique? It would be appreciated. I'm just starting to pick up photography again after 20+ years of latency, so I think any input is good to improve on my skills..
Thanks!
Andy

No, I can't follow that either. You entered three - that's the initial allowance. That set you back to 0. All three were accepted, so that moved you to 10 slots per week, but you've already used three (the initial) and then three more, which is six, yes? There's a possibility when it moved you to ten that it hadn't caught up with itself yet. Who knows? At any rate, I can't figure if you've entered six, why you now have five. Four would make sense, unless you've gained back a slot from a week's time passing from your first submission.
Of course, if you've got enough to submit, go for all the open slots you have! :-) |

Not an insight, but I think this is an excellent example of a word I have not been able to come up with for a while. What is the term used for the optical effect of the lightening of the mountains as they go further back? |

If you had some that were rejected it would change slots available I think. When in doubt ask Ursula, Once there was a glitch on mine and it told me the incorrect amount and she got it straightened out for me.
ETA:Have one in screening for over a day, we shall see.

Did you submit it to the Critique section? Personally, I love mountain photos. The Critique thread may yield some valuable information about how people viewed this beautiful photo. |

Well, that definitely describes it, but I wanted to say there was a prettier word. Maybe I'm wrong though... |

Hmmmmmm...when I was a teenager, I visited a place in China called Kweilin and the atmosphere around the mountains made them appear "see through" and transparent. The mountains appeared as if you could see the mountain behind it because the eye fills in the line of the mountains even though you can't really see it. It's an optical illusion. There was a term for that...but I'm old now and can't remember it. |

I've heard it refered to as "Athmosperic perspective", still may not be pretty enough for you . . . . |

You don't have any upload slots left this week!
I've uploaded 6 altogether with two rejections but the first three passed. So while it said I had 10 slots then 5 I was only allowed 3 in the end.
So it's safe to say that nobody's exactly clear how it works? |

Recent reject, was in screening for a day and a half. Must have been pretty split. Here is the comment.
Of those who voted against your image, nine indicated that there is a problem with impact, five noted composition as a weakness and two selected editing as a reason for not publishing the image.
That is 16 no votes and it still looked to be about 50% popular. How do you tell the exact percentage that want to accept an image? I thought I saw some people post that info.
I am not surprised it didn't make it, it is good but could have been shot better I think, slightly different location further out on the right I think to get past the rock on the left. I thought the editing was well done, it is pretty lightly edited and colors were not enhanced after raw. I could have submitted the black and white I suppose, but I think it would have gotten rejected even faster. And this way I can post in this thread! lol.
Steve, I bet if you post your question in the 1x forum they will tell you what is going on. |

I hear they are going to send you this instead of a reject letter...
I got one in response to my questions about the slots.

Joe, I have several rejects at 50%. I figure those are good numbers - I'm happy with 'em even if they don't get published. :-)
Steve, what was the answer you got? And thanks, Mae! I just saw that. |

Is it just me or do few people leave comments on their own pictures? Maybe that's my problem! :) |

At least you got a lot of feedback. I had a rejection a while back that had no reason given (this was before they did away with that) and no comments whatsoever so all I had was a popularity bar as feedback. Speaking of which, I don't think there is a way to get the exact percentage of the popularity you get except to just pull the image into photoshop and measure it yourself.

I didn't write them. I was just joking because I've been slow picking up on a few of the sites nuances, the slots thing being just one I can't figure out.
So I gave myself an ice cream dunce cap, courtesy of The Grateful Deads, Europe 72, album cover.
They just allowed me 1 more upload and I still have 5 upload slots. I have no idea...

It might be the way you are reading your slots. I was reading it wrong for a while too:
Upload Slots: 2 <-- This is the number of slots you get a week. They are released, it seems, exactly a week from the last.
Free Slots: 2 <-- This is the remaining # of slots you have for the week.
Is that the way you are reading them? |
