That's interesting. I had a rejection last week that also didn't have a reason or any comments for that matter. I think at the very least one should be given at least by the screeners. How popular was it?
ETA: I'm guessing it probably had to do with the editing. I remember a shot by a 1x member that had a lot of editing like this but was rejected because of a very subtle part of the editing that to me wasn't even noticable unless you zoomed in on the photo inspecting it with a fine comb. Perhaps that is what was done here? Heck, it might just be the sky since it loses its color in the corner. They seem to look for things like that and may judge it as having no artistic value or a mistake of some kind. Post to critique and see if that's what they say. A slight re-edit might get it accepted. It did for that other photo I mentioned.

Rejected for editing. Yes...it has three layers of textures on it. I like it. I do find a bit of inconsistency in the fine art nude gallery with editing. Some look very edited and others very pure. It really is quite the range of editing in that particular category.
Accepted.

hey i saw this in screening and i voted for not to publish. for what it's worth, i said its because it looks too much digital art and not enough photograph for me. |

rejected: "edited too extensively or looks too unnatural"
rejected: "its a good photo, but it doesn't stand out that much"

hey richard yanko.. thanks so much for your comments .. that desaturated corner was intentional by the way .. like coming out'v the depths or the 'bad' place ..
k4ffy i value any feedback so thanks .. but its not supposed to be like a photograph .. its obviously digital art .. i often think that if i used an overlay/texture and desaturated my images to either a sepia or b&w to give them more of that atmospheric feel they would be better appreciated .. but i love colours .. so there you go ..
and often when you desat that type of processing it does make any transitions less noticeable .. but i doubt there were any transitions noticeable even blown right up in that one ..
maybe it just didnt have enough 'meaning' or depth .. which i can understand ..
i didnt know there was a tie-in here with images submitted for approval to 1X and here in dpc ..
also i didnt know that i could vote on other ppl's submissions in 1X .. i was thinking it was a group of 'experts' selected for the purpose .. you live and learn .. :)..
thank goodness being rejected in 1X is like wotever .. nothing like the stress and anxiety i feel when i get 1's and 2's in a dpc challenge during voting .. !!!!! ..lol ..:)

oh definitely, i just meant that 1x is supposed to be a photography site, instead of digital art, atleast as far as i can tell, so i don't think it fit in with what they were looking for, hence i voted to not publish.
as for voting, anyone can vote, but the "final word" still goes to a 1x "screener" or expert as you put it. its pretty much totally subjective.

Saw it in screening, so it did get to popular vote stage. If you go into your uploaded photos section and click on it, you will see a bar showing its popularity as well as any comments that were left on it during screening. |

They allow both. Take a look at their Creative Edit section.

By the way, I did submit my End of the Day shot to critique after voting - got some good comments. As I mentioned before, that one had a 50/50 split on the vote bar - may have been worth trying again, but I decided against it. I didn't submit my pinhole shot to critique - it's one of those things that I think probably has limited appeal to begin with and I think I got enough feedback from the screener, the other comments, and the distribution of the "nay" votes. But I do like the critique section and do recommend you use it if you really think, after screening, that your shot still has potential for 1x. Go to your submitted pictures tab, click on the reject, and I believe there's a button near the top to submit for critique. You'll be asked to add more information and the questions they want you to answer will make you think a bit. It's a good exercise. |

Thanks Melethia. It's also a bit of luck, I guess. And, of course, we all know this ratio will fall drastically with time... :) |

Rejected
Of those who voted against your image, eight indicated that there is a problem with impact, two noted color as a weakness and one selected composition as a reason for not publishing the image.

Color as a weakness? I guess they were trying to say that it looked like it might work better in color, maybe. I do think that "Impact" is a catch-all sort of category for "like/don't like". |

Woo-hoo!
I thought this club would be easier to join -- with my Charlie Brown kind of luck. This was just accepted:
I did clean it up a little, but not much. Didn't touch the color. Screening popularity was around 70% (is that good?) with some quibbles about composition and impact.
Thanks, Deb! Might try a street shot next. (Yeah, that'll go well.)

Thanks again. Bad news is I can̢۪t access 1x from work (well, maybe it̢۪s a good thing) and I think there are image comments there that I haven̢۪t seen yet today. I̢۪m still learning the ropes there, so someone let me know if I̢۪m committing any etiquette faux pas. For instance, it looks like some folks respond to each and every comment received... ? |
