Yeah, what happened? Was it as bad as Gulliver's bit where the little people took him captive?

OK Monica, Fill us in. Better yet, a detailed assessment of the day......Its a learning experience anyway.....

Firstly, What worked, what went well...
What went wrong and why......
If doing the same thing next week, what would you do differently....
Of the major problems, were they caused by a lack of preparation, a lack of experience, a Person, something you could control or not.

My first major shoot, we had a set of lights go down (unrecoverable) and a computer as well. Ended up running behind for the first half due to a lack of experience and people not doing what they were meant to, and the second part due to the set-up going down (we had two different set-ups going)

Had to back up to do the same thing the next night (with different people, but same organisers). Went like clockwork as we assessed what worked, what didn't, and made changes to fix it........

No problem making mistakes - we all do it. If you learn from them and don't repeat the mistakes - that's the key!

Sorry for the delay, Santa came to town tonight on a fire truck so we had to go see..
OKay.. Where to start.
Uh first, My children would NEVER step foot in that daycare center.

okay so we get there at 8 to start at 8:30..
they don't have a list of the kids ready like i asked, then I asked before hand who sto start with and we agreed younger then older..
well I ask to start with the babies, and am told well, start with the 2's.. okay not big deal.. only this teach has NOOOOO CONTROL OVER HER KIDS, I walk back there to say okay send me 3 at a time and they are tearing down the blinds, on top the tables, screaming..Glad i took my medication before i left the house..
so out come the 1st 3. one freaks out over the santa hats cause he thinks santa is coming and he HATES santa... which inturns freaks the rest of them out.. that class was just once non smiling screaming kid after the next, however I did have one bright smiling child who made a deal with me, she would smile if she didn't have to go back in that room!!!.. yeeah....

okay on to toddler 2 room..

the girl helping me goes in to tell them to send out 3, the teacher says well here is 5 the rest won't let you take thir picture so just do these... hmm.. okay can i try?
so 5 is over with and I go back and she tells me that this time so, I peeked my head in and silly said.. who wants to wear my santa hat? well only 1 wouldn't let me take thier picture in the end and 1 was crying in the pic.. but that group took wayyyyyyyyyy longer than it should... not to mention she had 19 kids alone... isn't the max 12? whole nother story tho..

so on to babies, cause I was informed they were getting sleepy.. hmm isn't that why I wanted them first thing in the morning?? so I tell her how I wanted it done and yeah.. on the last one I think she finally understood.. but I got smiling kids so it's okay.. i think that was the easiest room...

now the 3-4's.. holy hell! Monsters! just straight up Monsters!!!

nothing went wrong so to say with the actual picture taking part of it, only qorking with the friends or friend of a friend's 2-4 kids is nothing.. working with a ton of kids.. oh my gosh! NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER again...

had the staff been a little more.. not helpful, but.. i'm not sure of the word i am liiking for here.. it might not have been so bad.. either that of give me the lil mongrals each for 1 week.. I promise they won't act like that when they go back home to their parents.. don't people make their kids mind anymore and not act like little heathens where ever they go?

oh and to add.. okay I get that you don't send your kid to school, daycare much less dressed in sunday's best.. but do people all over really send their kids to school with breakfast still on their face or clothes that look like they have been playing all day outside? and what about hair brushing? do they not do that?

some of you daycare photog's fill me in on the FYI.. I was just baffled.. I mean you always have a kid like that you notice but a bunch of them??

This has defanitly made me want to be more observant in the places I send my own kids.

There's a general trend in American society to look like crap and not give a damn. Hairstyles, clothes, everything. Son this is no surprise to me. Been to an airport lately? Mind boggling what people will fly in now. From San Jose to Phoenix I had to sit next to a guy in cutoffs and rubber flipflops, wife-beater tee, unshaven, uncombed, no deodorant... And he wasn't even the worst I saw.

How did the photos turn out? At the end of the day, did you get good shots of most of the kids? This is what is going to make you money.
In terms of misbehaving kids, well, not much you can do about that. The idea of asking who wants to wear the hat was good, and worked. As I said, something that worked to remember for next time.
As a rule, when we are doing a shoot with kids, we make sure that the group cannot see the person being photographed. We find that the kids are more likely to play up for an audience, remove the audience and often they are a bit better.
Fortunately, normally I have delt with good Teachers etc. tey do make a difference. If they have control of the class, the kids are often better behaved to begin with, and they can also help when there is trouble.

Maybe instead of NEVER NEVER AGAIN, change it to NEVER, NEVER AGAIN AT THAT PLACE. Trust me, next time you will be a little more confident (which helps) a little more assertive (I need the Babies FIRST!!!) and a little more relaxed, with some extra skills.

Also, let us know how you go with sales........

I'm just so upset with myself for even thinking I could maybe do this.. I don't even want to mess with the pictures.. I uploaded them and I'm leaving it at that until tomorrow..

Just thought i'd let ya know.. I ended up making $250 off of this.. I actually sold some.. haha.
($250 to yall isn't anything I know.. but to someone wanting try this out and not making much of a profit off the things.. i was shocked.. and it buys an exta gift or 2 for the kiddos christmas.. )

Doesn't sound like you didn't know what you were doing, sounds like you were grossly outnumbered and lacked any other professionals on site to help with the kids. But basically, yes, it is so I could laugh at you. :P
