A friend from work asked me to take some headshots for him so he can add to his portfolio; he's into acting and is getting small jobs but wants to expand into other areas too. He's landed a few small roles in films like The Punisher 1 and 2, which hasn't been released yet, among other small budget gigs.
So here are the ones he chose to show an agent so far. I'm still working on others that he chose and will post more later on as I finish them. Please comment freely and don't be shy, I can take it and want to improve on this type of photography.
Here's my brief critique. This was shot over two sessions and although he had lots of clothes to change into I never asked him to remove his necklace. Therefore they appear in all the shots I took. Lesson learned. Another thing I learned was that I need to direct him more into posing for variety's sake. I mostly took the photos from the same side although we did switch once or twice but I do have an abundance of shots from his left side. Another lesson learned.
Fire away. ;}

Thanks for the comment macrothing, very informative and I like your idea of sketching ideas out together before the shoot. |

Did you ask him to squint and give that pouty lipped look in all the shots or is he always like that? I'm not sure what kind of role he normally goes for, but they all look like bad-boy boy-band photos. He doesn't look relaxed in any of them, and looks really cocky (maybe overcompensating for being nervous?).
I think your lighting is best in the two with the black sweater with the white stripes on the arms and the white shirt. |

It's his look. He's working on a portfolio and wants different looks. I made him laugh and got some ok shots but he didn't choose any of them. He wanted this type of shot and that's what he got. I'm the third photographer he works with so I can understand that he wants variety in his portfolio.
I thought I would get more comments, I guess they suck that much. LOL
