I predict 2 megapixel cameras embedded in Pez candy dispensers by year's end.
When are they ever going to figure out "Composition-Enhancement" technology. It's easy, a couple of gyroscopes to force the camera into a better composition... hmmmmmmm...

I just saw binoculars with a digital camera as part of them.

It's a lousy camera, and you have to use it with the proprietary software, I think you could get 4 pictures in the memory at a time.

with the spread of phone cams, web cams, pen cams etc. I predict a whole lot of really bad images on the WWW, even more than there already is.

I predict (or hope) the people putting cams on phones will realize what a bad idea it is.

(Can't take you phone into the locker room at a spa anymore or into a secure corporate or government facility.)

I predict the following for 2004:

Someone will say....

"Post your best xxxxxx picture"

"How could anyone give this photo a 1?"

"Where's the new challenge?"

"Congrats again Kiwi!"

"Congrats again JJ!"

"I'm a misunderstood artist."

"I don't care what the voters think. I like it anyway!"

"I took the artistic approach and got hammered for it."

"Everyone who gives a low score should be forced to comment."

"Post your best xxxxxx picture"

"Post your best xxxxxx picture"

"Post your best xxxxxx picture"

:)

John,
You forgot to predict the continuing editing/no editing debate...
The December member's change just won't be enough to put this debate to rest.

From Thom's predictions:
"Make an interchangeable lens compact."

This awoke my curiosity. To be able to use the great lenses without the drawbacks of SLR viewfinder has been a dream of mine for a long time. Anyone know more about it?

I thought the title was pretty funny too, and perhaps more so since JD failed to suppress his signature line in the initial post.

Based on recent research on primate telekinesis, maybe a shutter-release triggered by brain waves.

JD -- I didn't mind the flag -- I still think it's funny!

The guy from the article predicts that phone cams are going to rule the lown end...... For now I disagree.

My brother (he's 6 years younger and hates being photographed) has a Nokia 7250i. This model has a camera build into the back. The problem is that after a month of ownership the lens cover is scratched to hell. Why? Well, it is a mobile phone. It is put into pockets and those contain stuff like: pens, coins, keys, knives (swiss-army type), sand and such. Even when you pick up the phone and you have a hard metal ring on your finger it will scratch.
Result: After a month the lens cover is so scratched that it shows on the (lousy tech quality) photo's.
What do manufacturers need to do? Cover the lens up (but who likes phones that you need to open, I am not one of them (Sony-Ericsson T200
-no camera-).

Another downside of this particular Nokia is that you have to go through several menus to be able to take a pic. No direct shutter button, so in no way are you going to take a real snap of a moment.

My niece, also 6 years younger, has the same problem with her phone-cam. Lens cover scratching within days of ownership. Expensive phones equalled to cheap ones within a week.

Only 2 years before their phones are fully paid with their subscription fees. Owwww, I just have to take a pic of them when we meet again (with a real camera).

Build in GPS would be great. You can always go back to the exact same spot to redo your shot.
Per pixel exposure control, I believe Canon has a patent on a technology that allows this.

In car digital camera that will take a shot when someone cuts in front of you. You can just sent it directly to the police and they can get a ticket ;P

Side door cameras to take a picture of the jerk that slammed their door into your door and made a huge ding.

I want one combined with one of those paintball guns for marking cars which drive through the intersection on a red light.

I have a digital camera and a couple of paintball guns. Hmmmmmmmmm where's MacGuver when you need him. Duct tape. Just might work.

I think an active imagination would be safer than duct tape in this situation. As much as I want to think about blasting these people's cars, it's both really dangerous and probably against the laws of a variety of jurisdictions.

But if you can get a picture of them in the intersection (on your green light) and another with the license plate, the police might at least file a report.

Forget the shutter release - I'm waiting for the direct mapping from brain waves to the CCD. Maybe then I'll actually be able to get pictures of the world around me as I see them in my head.

Yes, like Isaac says, then you can "take pictures with your eyes."
